Range Rover Sport 2010 onwards DRL modification

I am looking to run my LED rings on my 2011 Sport as DRLs.
I know there has been a lot of discussion reprogramming etc but I believe it cannot be done.
So what I am looking to do is wire them up to come on with the ignition on their own, not putting side lights on.
With my previous Sport I added DRL rings and wired them up so they came on when the ignition went on and then went off when ignition was turned off (see pic below).
Does anyone know which wire in the headlight loom run to the LED lights?
If we can identify them then it should be easy.
Thoughts everyone?

people say use the spare smog sensor connector, behind the grill (passenger side) for an ignition supply.


Maybe black/green wire or Orange/green wire.

On my last one I used a spare fuse holder which was ignition live.
Just not looked at lights to see wires to use

Not a Auto Electrician, but had a look at wiring diagram and there is no specific mention of the DRL's however it does mention s/lights obviously. This appears to be a Red and Black wire Pin No. 2 in the L/H headlamp plug Red and Orange wire on R/H lamp plug top row centre pin, there is also a red and black wire Pin No. 14 which could well be a ignition live as it states IGN. and comes from a 5amp fuse No.50 in the CJB.

As I said not a auto electrician but it may help. My other thought was if you start modifying the original wiring would there not be a possibility of having permanent fault showing but wouldn't know for sure.

Good spot on pin 14 being Ignition.

My only concern is if the wire is included on Non AFS cars.

Will have to look at mine later.

I think it may have been Pin 14 I used as ignition live when I fitted DRL's to my old 09 plate sport, but it was a few years ago now. It was certainly in the headlamp plug somewhere that much I can remember.

Possibly might work then if run a wire from pin14 straight to ignition live spare fuse slot in fuse box as already earthed.
Could this work??

Using the Gap IID BT Tool you can alter sidelights to run as DRL automatically, so couldn't you just turn that on and then run from a sidelights lead or sidelight fuse in fuse box? John

Pin 14 is already a ignition live which you could use to work DRL's.

I don't know whether this would work or not as I said not a auto electrician, in the headlamp plug Pin 14 is an ignition live, Pin 2 is the sidelight, if you link Pin 14 to Pin 2 that should power up the sidelight when ignition switched on according to my reckoning but as said not an electrician, however haven't a clue what would happen when you actually turn the lights on, might have to fit a diode in the circuit somewhere. The other thing is may also turn the rear light on as, in which case you may as well simply drive with sidelights on all the time. I am not suggesting you try this as I don't know if it would work or not or cause any other electrical problems, short circuit etc. it is only a thought.

I have now started looking at other ideas, for example a DRL strip inside the headlights, then wired up separate from the headlights to come on as a true DRL.
This is the strip I will probably try

The adapative cruise wiring loom just above the horns (if your car does not have adaptive cruise control) can be used as the ignition on wire as shown on the picture below (not my car).



I use this as the ignition on switching signal for my DRL's. I still take power directly from the battery to power up the DRL's. I recommend cutting the wire to the plug and using a weatherproof connector. Using an isulation displacement connector is not recommended in areas which can get wet - such as behind the grill.

There is no ignition on wires on the plugs which connect to the headlamps on the upgrade L320 as indicated by others (I have tested this in practice). Powerfull UK indicate to use the adaptive cruise loom connection (the picture above is from their website). However this contradicts with their wiring connections list which indicates to use wires which go to the headlamp plugs.

DRL's are much brighter than side lights.
