United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
decoked TDV8

Had a engine failure alert pop up about 6 weeks ago now and then vanish a day later, it came back again just after xmas and then went 2 days later again to then finally come back in the new year and stay! Car runs fine, no limp mode just down on low end power. Turned out to be the turbo actuators seizing so was down on acceleration but still ran fine.

Spoke to Geoff who services and does most of the work on the car since I have owned it and he recommended GDA services down in Penshurst (kent) last week they had it in and did a decoke on the EGR valves and Turbos as well as cleaning the inlets.

Got it back Saturday and my god its like a different car! power and fuel economy both up and no more errors! Apparently the turbos were very sludged up!

I dont use the car a great deal and tend to do mainly short journeys under 20 miles when I do hence the build up im told. I also need to give it some beans more often to try and clear it a bit Smile

Also a clean bill of health after a thorough going over apart for a set of crusty rear discs and pads that I will do when the weather improves!

Was thinking of moving it on as I use it so little (10k in 30 months) but will now keep it for another year at least!

No was not a terraclean as far as i am aware, and yes it does feel quick again! amazing how you get used to the performance of it, im now looking at possibly doing a couple of bits to it like the tailgate conversion and getting the wheels repaired as they have a kurb mark or three on them! I do love the car but cant help feeling it sitting on my drive most of the time is not doing it any good!

Did I read somewhere that these cars remember your driving style and that if you drive sedately it assumes you'll always drive sedately? And that disconnecting the battery for a while clears the memory and it'll drive more sportily until it learns a new driving style?

Or did I dream that? Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

No,, I believe your correct Bill,, the Gearbox remembers your driving style and can be reset but I think it requires the use of a plug in tool like the lld or similar rather than just disconnecting the battery. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Never had any of these inlet cleaning services done as I had heard they don't do much and the vehicle soon ends up back the same as it was as it's not doing anything about the problem that caused the carbon build up which is due to the oil system in the engine.
Have a local garage that offers this service so had it done on my 180k mile van as it was due a service and was badly down on power. It has transformed the way it drives and all power is back so will be having this done to the RRS when it due a oil change.
