I used to live just down the road from you Canary in Harpenden. Had to work in London that Saturday night and drove home via the A1. It had just gone up a short while before I drove past and I could see the smoke billowing in the air from the A1.

Supermarket Fuel is trash simple. I know of at least 3 times my local tesco has had to foot damage costs caused to owners vehicles for substandard diesel and petrol. Wont use it! Current

I suspect what happens there is that the wrong additive packs are put in (a diesel one into the petrol tank or vice versa). The actual base fuel is the same stuff that goes into "branded" filling stations.

As has been confirmed further back in this thread........... MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Your choice JPR

To counter your reason though, Iโ€™ve filled with nothing other than Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrison at numerous nationwide outlets using a fuelgenie card, for the last 10 years and have never suffered a bad fuel problem with any of my and my wifeโ€™s cars

Morrisonโ€™s and Tesco did suffer from a bad fuel episode 10 years ago when a silicon based anti foaming additive found in diesel, was accidentally added to unleaded at Vopak. Could just as easily contaminated fuel at any outlet, it just happened to affect the two supermarkets because some numpty at Harvest Energy put the additive in the wrong tankers which delivered before the error was spotted.
Other isolated incidents, for example, recently at Harlow, are just as prevelant with mainstream outlets but they are better hidden from the press. As said above, no matter where the fuel is distributed, itโ€™s the same stuff coming from the refinery. Only the handling at the terminal is subject to the occasional human error.

It always makes me chuckle when you see the adverts to get an extra 20 miles per tank, anyone do the maths on average 20p extra a litre for premium fuel, me about about every 10th fill up treat it the good stuff just for the extra additives that they have in the fuel. But i am running an older model.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

As has been said before, supermarket fuel might be the same as branded up to the point of delivery. It's what it's put into and how it is manged at the site I think where the problems arise.

Morrisons had so many problems with water and other foreign debris in their fuel at one point, which could only have been down to the storage and equipment installed at their sites.

The likes of Shell & BP have a reputation to uphold, therefore I would suggest they are a little more concerned at making sure their product is as good at point of delivery as it is when it left the refinery.

I use a BP bunker card so avoid supermarket fuel, but would never use the higher octane option on offer as I don't think modern cars would know the difference, whereas old fashioned multi carbed engines might.
