Resurrecting a mature post. I had my wheels rebalanced last week as I had a bad vibration. Turned out the last person to balance them just put weights all over the spot. The fitter said the front right was 60g out which he said was bad. They also had problems with my nuts. They are all swollen and 5 of them he had to punch the socket off with a drift damaging the chrome cover. So my question is, should I buy a 6 point socket as my 22mm sockets are all 18 point and I suspect it’s 18 point sockets that are doing the damage (it doesn’t appear to be corrosion).

Get the nuts without the stainless covers on them,,it’s same with the old ford & Volvo ones with the covers, they are a nightmare,we always end up knocking a 28mm socket on the 19 mm nuts to get them off.sixonetwo (I’m sure they are a site sponsor)stock them in silver & black,Im getting a set of black ones to go with my black wheels at about £75ish for a full set of 20.

These are what you want, but they are not cheap. Have to say though strangely enough never had a problem with L/R nuts in 20 odd years.
