Shunt when stationary

Hi all, I get the occasional driveline shunt when stationary at the lights with foot on brake pedal. Is it a gearbox flush that's needed? Whatever the cause, what are the dangers of leaving it unattended to?
Thanks Thumbs Up

Tim,
If the mileage is above 35k then a gearbox flush would be a great idea anyway. Think of it as preventative maintenance.
As for the shunt you are feeling; mine used to do that sometimes and usually when coming to a stop on an up incline. I used to wonder if it was a late downshift to 1st gear. The RRS box is programmed to set off in second gear routinely but maybe when the car knows it's on an incline it shifts down to 1st for an easier pull away? Tired gearbox fluid may be making the shift a bit clunky so you notice it more.

I was chasing a different fault on my car for a long time and somewhere along the way after flushing the gearbox, updating the engine and gearbox software and eventually fixing the fault by replacing the gearbox ECU, the shunt whilst stationary has disappeared.

You would probably be best to start with the gearbox flush and having the software updated and adaptations cleared. Most specialists will do all those things at the same time as a matter of course.

Hope that helps. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi thankyou very much. Great advice and I remember your bit about starting in 2nd so I will see when it happens next time if its gone into 1st. I'm on 86k so a flush is a good idea. Many thanks again 😊

Shunt can be caused by a number of things including a worn output flange or tired solenoid valves in the mechatronic unit. A flush would be first thing to try and it's at the mileage when it's a good idea anyway. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
