Intake Manifold Repair

I believe I have a crack on the intake manifold - is this something that can be repaired with some kind of sealant/glue/compound like another member on this forum has?

It’s worth a try just make sure you use a 2 part epoxy resin like araldite or gorilla glue and clean the crack and surrounding area with brake cleaner and the give it a good rough up, you could even try and weld the crack back together first with a soldering iron and cover with resin just be careful not to make any holes as you don’t want any lumps of dried glue inside the intake,
I also would ignore the claims that it sets in 5 mins but allow 24 hours if you can to make sure it’s fully cured Clickadeeclick

will the manifold have to be completely removed?

in the interim, i have just read that as there is a TSB for it, this can be taken to the dealer and repaired free of cost as it is an inherent manufacturing fault to due the thickness of the plastic.

any thoughts on this?

That would depend on where the crack is but if you have to remove the manifold I would sooner replace it rather than repair if it were mine,
It’s got to be worth a phone call to the dealers first as once you try and repair it they won’t entertain doing it free, try a few different dealers but your service history can be a factor in goodwill claims Clickadeeclick

The new manifolds are a stronger design, and won't split again. Not that expensive either, in the grand scheme...

how do i avoid any lumps of dried glue inside the intake?

will this be covered under a warranty by warranty direct?

just spoke to dealer, they will firstly carry out diagnostic at £152 per hour even though fault is visually obvious.
then they will see if i meet certain criteria i.e. service history, previous cars purchased etc.

they said it is up to managers discretion

anyone had any experience with this being successful on 7 yr old car?

Epoxy is quite thick so won’t run through the crack unless there’s holes, as for warranty direct I would have thought it will be covered as it can hardly be regarded as wear & tear but then you never know, I’m sure if you get a written quote from an Indy you can present it to WD to get authorisation before the work begins, on the other hand if your handy with the spanners and the part isn’t to expensive then it may be less hassle to get it sorted right and then you have piece of mind it won’t go again Clickadeeclick

Mine had been glued back together when I bought the car, a week in there was a load bang and it blew a hole big enough to get my finger in. Given the pita removing injectors etc to get to the manifold, I would just replace it.

I had the driver's side inlet manifold replaced on my TDV8 last month due to a hairline crack. Cost me approx £750 all in by my local specialist. It's abit of a pain to get at and remove but they did it all in approx 4 hours. I would rather replace than glue. I would worry about it failing.
