I had the same problem as everybody else with the GPS icon crossed out in red. I decided to buy an antenna as per Flack’s post and tried it first by connecting it directly to the back of the navigation unit and put the antenna by the window. Disconnected/connected all the cables first to give it a “reset”, did a location calibration and drove around for about half hour and the GPS icon is still crossed out in red and the location in the map is miles away from where the car is.

Am I the only one who has a genuine navigation unit faulty or was I so unlucky to buy a faulty or incompatible antenna of ebay? It was only £4.95. See link below

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/GPS-SAT-NAV-AERIA...SwAQBap0g4

By the way the model number of the navigation unit on my RRS is 8H42 10E887 AB.

Just in case anybody has the same issues as me here is an update to my problem ^^^.
I bought another navigation unit and it still didn't work, it was still showing the GPS symbol crossed out. It turns out that if I remove the Fakra connector from the end of the new antenna and push the coaxial cable further it would work. Not sure why it wouldn't work with the Fakra connector ON, maybe the manufacturer of the antenna didn't assemble the connector properly?. Anyways, followed the instructions as per Flack's instructions and all is working again, but still with no Fakra connector at the end of the antenna. So now I have a fully working spare navigation unit which will have to go back to Ebay again. Happy days Very Happy . 2008 Range Rover Sport 2.7 SE Zermatt Silver.

Does anyone know what unit to buy if you have problems with phone and DAB signal (interference when the door opens on the DAB and really poor crackly phone reception). I'm assuming its the same procedure just with a different type of aerial. Also after having a rummage around under the roof lining yesterday i couldnt get the connectors off. Does anyone have any pointers for this please.

P.s. thanks to the original poster for taking the trouble to write this up.

Can somebody post an up to date link to the cheap GPS unit to purchase. I’ve got code B1A89-11(6c) Satellite Antennae - general electrical failure - circuit short to ground. Found this thread via the search. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Just done this job on mine, bought the cheapest sat nav aerial on eBay (£4) didn’t matter what connection as I reused mine. Very straight forward job.

I did this today having purchased an aerial from the link wilchesth posted having reduced the price to £4.99 posted!. Anyway followed the guide which was great but I took a couple of photo’s that may add to those already posted. The only issue I found with mine not mentioned is when I took the locking bit from the Fraka connection I couldn’t withdraw the cable. Looking down the barrel of the gun as such there was a little plastic lug, which I freed using an instrument screwdriver and bingo. It all works again and the only thing is all my securing clips (3) for the NSR boot panel were crushed, so I’ll have to order some of those yellow locating clips. Sorry for the poor photo’s but you get the idea. My base plate was rusty and the inside of the shark fin had condensation in it. All in all took me and hour and a bit but I am a bit James May on the speed front.

Hi Flack,
Resurrecting one of your older posts, my question being, how easy was it to thread the new cable down to the unit (my dvd reader is under passenger seat).
I'd like to try this b4 buying a new sharkfin gps antenna.

If its just to test for a few days, put it in the front windscreen.
Thread it thru the passenger grab handle, then thru the rear one and down to under the seat
