RR Sport 2.7 v6 Wont Start :(

My cars been running fine since I got it right up until now.

My plan was to head out this morning, jumped in the car - everything fine, normal lights on the dash etc went to start and it was just turning over. Tried to start it quite a few times (atleast 10) and it still wont fire up.

I've got the battery on charge just now as I've read a few topics suggesting a weak battery can cause a load of faults. In the meantime I've checked the fuel bleed point at the back of the engine and there's fuel there so I'd assume its getting fuel. My glow plug light illuminates and goes off as normal so Im not sure if the fault lies there or not, it's currently 1oC outside and it was below freezing last night.

Has anyone else had experience with this or a solution?

Thanks

Glow plug problems do tend to show up when its 0°C (and they are almost impossible to change)

wait till its warmer and charged

do you have an electric multimeter ?

If you do you can test them while the battery is charging....

set the meter to ohms. e.g 200R or the setting where it beeps if you touch the leeds.

remove the engine cover and replace the oil cap.

On the top of the engine, either side are some 3 pin plugs with green wires .

1 wire each for the 6 glow plugs.

disconnect the connector.

put one meter lead (black) on a good earth connection (battery black cable)

then using the other meter cable probe the green wire which dissapears into the middle of the engine.

A good glow plug will read around 1.0R (or beep)
With a bad plug the display will not change when probed (so it will read 1)

I realize that is really confusing! So you need to watch the display for a change while probing.

If you get other readings like 100, 400, 700 this is no good either
(you would need to be on the 2K setting for that)

The green wires have stripes.

Red
Orange
Blue

So note down the readings for both sides of the engine.

For most accurate results test when the engine is cold, and you HAVE NOT been recently trying to start it.

Hi,

Yes I do have a multimeter. Is there a way of checking the glowplugs?

So you put the black meter lead on a
Good ground (battery -)
And the red meter lead on each green wire pin, in turn

as above post

Results sheet

Blue (rear)
