Transfer Case faults - loose earth

A heads up for anyone getting transfer case, ‘Clutch Actuator Stuck’ and/or ‘Clutch Actuator At Limit’ faults

Occasionally on starting, Ive been getting transfer case faults with the usual ‘changes not available’ and ‘special programs not available’ messages. The above DTC’s found with my IID tool.
Managed to find time to drive the car up on to ramps this morning and take a look. I removed the three electrical plugs to the transfer case and squirted with contact cleaner, added some dialectic grease and refitted them. Then found the culprit, earth strap from the transfer case to the body, loose. Removed the strap, cleaned up the ends with some scotchbrite and refitted, now tight.

Calibrated the clutch and position sensor, numerous starts and some driving in high and low range. No more faults.

Anyone getting similar problems, this is something to check Thumbs Up
