United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Firenze Red
RR Sport 2013 Auto Gear Stick Shift Button Broken

Hi All,

Need help! I had just been out to the shops this morning with no issues and came home. Dropped off some bits and needed to go out again, but discovered that I could not shift my gearstick from Park to Drive Mode. Car starts fine and everything else is working, but the silver button you press down at the rear of the gearstick is now loose and won't engage the "shift" mode to allow me to change to Drive.

What can I do? Is this something that Land Rover themselves can fix? Car is unfortunately out of warranty.

What are my options?

Thanks.

It may be just coincidence but I have just had to replace my battery. One of the symptoms when it was fully flat was that I could not move the gear stick out of park. http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic49170.html

New battery installed and all’s well again. I know you said everything else is ok so this is probably not relevant but you never know with these cars Smile Robin

Battery seems fine..no warning messages at all..button does feel very loose indeed, not the normal click I get when changing drive mode. Button feels loose to touch. Car starts and stops with no issue.

Thank you though...

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

On the earlier models there is an emergency procedure for over-riding the interlock switch that appears to have broken. Maybe it is similar for your model?
Have a look at this thread:

If you are the practical type - try dismantling the switch and finding out what is broken . With a little ingenuity such things can often be fixed with a dab of epoxy or or drilling and pinning. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I thought they changed to the wheel around 2010...instead of the "stick"? Neutral Steve.

Mine is a "stick shift" on the new RR sport late 2013; ie not a wheel.

It's also a smart key remote. Just need it on me when I push the start/stop button.

On the below image, it's on the "opposite" side of the top "P"

It looks like I'm going to have to stump up something similar to this :

in fairness though, it's my first "fault" with my car after 4 years of good ownership.

How easy is it to fit this?

IIRC at the time LR claimed that there were too many complaints about the less than sporty operation of the rotary selector by RRS owners so we got the stick shifter for L494. I had 3 cars with the rotary shifter and never found it awkward just unnatural to rotate the a shifter. LR claimed the stick selector was more sporty....... but it’s amazing how many people cannot figure out how to shift it out of P though. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Gear bShift Silver Select Button

This exact fault happened to me this morning. The Silver Gear Shift button suddenly felt loose, soon afterwards i was unable to shift from Park to drive or neautral. Therefore unable to move the car as the gearbox was locked.

My question , is there a way to override so that i could unlock gearbox so the vehicle could be moved ??

Land Rover Assist were excellent with a low loader sent within 30 minutes as this happened at traffic lights at a very busy junction.

Thanks for any replies

Kind Regards

Keith
