2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I put a “How to connect a solar panel trickle charger to an L494” post with photos up recently after coming back to a car with a battery so dead it wouldn’t open the glove box.... http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic49141.html
There are no live sockets when the car is parked up but because of the main battery being in the boot and the tailgate being powered LR has installed positive and Negative terminals under the bonnet on top of the driver’s side wheel arch top.
Maplin has the same panels on discount at the moment for £10-99. They only need daylight too, not sunlight and one of mine is used on my Defender in a shed with very dirty corrugated Perspex panels that let in just enough daylight for the little LED indicator on the panel to show it is making power. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi,
I will either use the points in Tim;s guide using the croc clips
or
as I have tow elecs if the cover is off I will use my 7 pin S plug into a 13 pin converter and into the car

as Tim mentions a big part of your decision is if the car is "outside" or not

I hardwired a CTEK Comfort Connector in the boot fuse box and use it to connect the charger. Leave the charger in the boot. The tailgate seal easily allows the power cable to pass through it to be plugged into a 13 amp weather proof socket that I fitted to my exterior wall. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I got a good deal on a Land Rover branded CTek for my last Evoque from Duckworth's, might be worth asking Dan what he can do for you. I still have the Evoque one unopened at home as the car was returned to LR before I got it installed! I’m not sure if the same unit does Evoque and RRS but will find out if you like. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Why can`t the chargers be connected directly to the battery? Steve.

Thanks River.

I have this charger: http://www.ctek.com/products/vehicle/mxs-10 but it was a few years ago so can't remember which site I bought from.

In my RRS1 I made the boot 12v power socket permanent live by "jumping" a relay labelled L1 and located in the glove compartment fuse box if I memory isn't failing me. The details of how to do that can be found on the Disco3 site. Then I used CTEK's cigarette lighter plug adapter to connect the charger through it: https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/ctek-cigarette-plug-adapter-a07tj

In RRS2 initially I did it the same way as above but later improved to do it without jumping the relay. Used a piggy back fuse holder like this: http://www.co-star.co.uk/range/363/fusehol...lders.html to tap into a permanent live circuit. Connected the positive wire of the CTEK Comfort Connector to the trailer fuse via the piggyback fuse holder and the negative to an earth point on the car's body. My L4984 dashcam hardwire write-up may be of some use here but definitely not totally applicable: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post473608.html#473608. This is one of the few Comfort Connectors that are available: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTEK-Comfort-Co...1604399133

As always, shop around for the best deal available as the charger and accessory prices do vary quite a bit depending on where you buy. Also make sure to get the correct type of fuse holder ... RRS1 uses Micro fuses whereas RRS2 uses Mini 2.

Hope this helps. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Just looking at the LR battery charger and it looks like it comes with a outlet connection, for sure none of these in the car remain live?
Does anyone know how LR wire them up?
I have a new Ctek mxs 5.0 for the car .

Hi Steve. I had my charger all connected up to my Battery and when it went in for service they told me this was no good as it affected the way the car charged the battery so they fitted it in a different way not on to the battery directly though so now i just plug it in the part thats beside the battery(female connect) and plug in the charger in .
Now i,m changing the car this is why i,m trying to find out the best way. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

It`s not like I can fit it in the garage anyway Crying or Very sad Steve.
