United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

Second hand car with 2 years LR approved warranty,,still 11 months left when I sold the car.
So when these go in for service its a case of,,,while we are changing your oil,,would you like us to fit a new engine as the crank looks like it could fail at any time.

And was the warranty still in force when the failure happened? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Australia

So not new car warranty , I am just starting to look at some of the extended warranties and some of the clauses are very interesting, some like ,normal wear, may exclude broken cranks if this is considered a normal event. Under Australian consumer law warranty goes past manufacturers warranty in that a dealer must supply goods fit for purpose , this is not time dependent, and I would think a broken crank after this period would not make the engine fit for purpose, especially if the vehicle has had regular service. Would be worth check UK consumer law as we seem to copy the POMS. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

EXACTLY Wilf,,,,,they are saying it is wear & tear Shocked So anyone with the 3.0 sdv6 I would be cautious if some of these engines are failing at around 30k miles.

Wows used LR s really are going to become lemons with no value at all if you have to play Russian roulette with the crank every time you start the car and you cant even have the security of a warranty, can't believe they just bury their head in the sand. Nanocom Evo

It's not wear and tear at 30k miles. It's a manufacturing fault. Wear and tear might be a reasonable defence if it had done 230k miles.

We have to remember that the extended warranty is provided by a third party and is just an insurance policy. Like all insurance, they will try to wriggle out of it.

I still think it needs national media coverage to shame LR in to doing the right thing. The CEO being asked on TV why he thinks it's ok for cranks to snap at 30k miles will be priceless. Imagine the potential loss of sales in the UK... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

CEO of JLR or even the CEO of LR are probably unaware that there is a problem............... it has possibly never been elevated above LRCS or the engine design team. As RRSTDv8 says the warranty is an insurance policy and the underwriters will wriggle as much as they can to avoid a huge payout for a new engine regardless of whether it is a common fault or fair wear and tear, it is going to cost them. I wonder how the rest of us with the same engine can get re-assurance that our crank won’t fail? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

if warranty companies are going to use the get out of its a common or inherent fault it's going to be difficult to have any meaningful assurance that you won't be faced with a huge bill if you own a LR with the engine prone to failure once out of manufacturers warranty.
In turn who is going to want to buy a used vehicle with that sort of worry ? Some manufacturers offer 7 year warranties it's about time LR thought about something similar on main components at least. Nanocom Evo

When I approached LR a few months ago about the potential for crankshaft failure on my car, this was the response I got "Should you experience any vehicle concerns once outside of the manufactures warranty which you believe to be a manufacturing defect, rest assured Land Rover would complete a full investigation into your concerns and assist financially should it be deemed necessary."

I took this as a reassurance but I've not tested it, yet......... Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

I got a similar response when I asked about oil pump on my 2007, assured there were no issues and they would assist if I had an issue, 9 months later new engine required , LR didn't want to know .
There assurance in that email and the lack of warranty available has sealed this as my last ever LR product . Nanocom Evo
