Tomtom mount?

Hi,

Given how poor the RRS sat nav is - sending the wrong way even around places such as Coventry (you'd think that area would have been truly well tested!), I'm deciding it's time to use the trusty Tomtom 5100 more, which has over the last couple of years proved itself far more reliable than any JLR (or other manufacturer) satnav!

So, currently I'm using the suction cup to attach it to the windscreen, however it's quite far away from your hand, and also blocks the view a bit.

Does anyone else use a Tomtom or Garmin or their phone? If so where do they mount these?
I was thinking of buying one of those discs which have sticky pad one side and then the suction pad on the nav goes on the other side. However I can't spot an obvious firm, flat plastic place to stick it to.
The alternative is the TomTom air vent mount on the central vent - has anyone tried on of these (or even better, have a photo)?

I do have a Kenu airframe+ which I occasionally use for my phone (and Waze), but was thinking the tomtom would be better in general.

I have an older sport but they do many different mountings for vehicles, ipad minis and the like. I use an ipad because we travel to Europe regularly so easier for mapping and online research purposes Thumbs Up

Apologies for quick pic and quality but just off out and late for an appointment Rolling Eyes

Looks very usable! - I'm assuming you don't leave it in all the time, and that inserting/removing the ipad is pretty quick and simple?

Takes 2 seconds to clip in ipad or unclip to remove. Brodit Mounts are designed so that no drilling is required to fit mounting also Thumbs Up have a browse on their site and hopefully they will have something that suits a device you have Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

I bought one of these on Amazon for £15 and it works really well. You attach the small magnetic mount to any flat surface (mine is stuck to the plastic trim surround around the stereo head unit) using the 3M adhesive pad and then attach one of the metal disks to your phone/ipad or whatever.
The mount swivels in many different directions and the metal disks come in different sizes for different things ie large rectangular one for iPad, 2 small round ones for phones.
So far works really well and is small and neat so doesn't detract from the serene interior!

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

The Brodit mounts are great because they are easy to move between cars - I have an iPad mount that I change the mounting on in seconds to fit in my L494 RRS or my 1996 Defender and can take my digital OS maps in either car when playing off road. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

At its simplest, my iPhone 7 sits nicely in the SatNav recess. And if it needs power, I just connect it to the front cigarette lighter.

I use the Kinivo BTC459 with its Bluetooth link which means that my music plays through the Car system but quietens when google maps is giving directions Thumbs Up

All works surprisingly well Robin

Me I use a Note 8 and Google traffic which I find very good. Also as a Plus the google voice command works better than the in car voice for phone dialing. Sat Nav's will disappear over time as Google even allows down load of maps for areas not covered by data networks. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I site my TomTom low down over on the rhs of the screen, right over by the A pillar, lets me reach it very easily.

No point in putting it in the centre. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
