The RRS is the most unreliable car on sale today!

According to the What-Car survey released today...

What Car? noted: ’Worryingly 60 per cent of Range Rover Sport diesels had problems. They spanned a wide range of areas, the most serious of which were the gearbox, drivetrain, engine and suspension.
'Not all cars were fixed under warranty and some were off the road for more than a week.’ "

TDV8HST, On current problems and number of electrical gremlins I think any Mk1 is far better than the Mk2s.
I would keep it while you are happy and it's running ok. That's what I've decided with MY12 car. John

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Apart from a flat battery 2 weeks ago my L494 has been totally reliable. Pity that the survey doesn’t go into more depth as I think many of ther issues for both Jaguar and Land Rover could be put down to InControl Touch Pro, I’m sorry to say but I think a lot of problems with older RRS’s is due to owners scrimping on maintenance - these are expensive and complex cars and need proper treatment.
After owning many many Land Rover products since the 1990’s my present car will be the last new Land Rover I will be buying, the pricing is now out of my league to replace my L494 with a new one to the same spec and the horror stories we read on this forum is enough to make me consider keeping my present car a bit longer, but I am having problems resisting a very healthy offer for the RRS from my local Mini dealership in exchange for what seems to be an extremely well built, if a tad pricey for a small SUV, Mini Countryman 1.5 petrol auto PHEV. I’m even giving up on any form of affordable Defender replacement coming along soon......... my 1996 TDi 300 just runs and runs and runs. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I agree with the findings. I have always took extreme good care of my RRS. It did not help that much.
My disco's series I , II and III did slightly better, but they had V8 engines.
The RRS 3.0 TDV6 is full of electronics and has a complicated motor management. It is a pain in the neck!
If it drives its hard to beat. But the last 2 years a total of almost one year in the workshop is far to much!
Not to mention the lack of spare parts sometimes. Never a diesel car again! RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux

Fully agree with the MX-5 score, its been like this for years

SWMBO bought a Mk2.5 brand new, ran it for 120K miles and not one thing failed, just servicing and brakes/tyres/bulbs replaced as required. Her current Mk3 again bought new, now at 65K miles and as yet, the same, no failures whatsoever. It just works.

Not that there is much to go wrong.

Whilst I agree with the general principle, Tim, I have to say that it's not that simple. My 10yo TDV8 has received an awful lot of work - stuff done as soon as it comes to light etc. It's worked for a living but been well taken care of. I have noticed that it has had many fewer issues since I started using an indie for all work.

When a main dealer worked on it, it was forever having to go in for stuff. When it was in they also damaged it - new steering rack and lower column required. Having put a new rack in, they didn't bother with an alignment. When I insisted, they used a Dunlop gauge because the ramp with the alignment kit had one of the mechanic's cars on it! Starter motor not fitted correctly, body not put back on properly after a turbo change, brackets/bolts not fitted properly. All main dealer.

I think the dreadful quality of the main dealers is LR's biggest issue, leaving QC at the factory aside. When vehicles are presented to dealers for fixing, they seem incapable, or unwilling, to fix them. Sure, the vehicles have some inherent faults and LR seem unwilling to sort those. But the real problem stems from Censored poor dealers. Vehicles that have had 3,4,5 or more years of main dealer servicing have potentially been bodged and broken and the third or fourth owner ends up trying to sort the issues. Then the bills arrive and people run away. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
