Winter / Snow tyres experiences - ski trip

Hi All
I've just picked up my new Sport and it seems a pretty solid vehicle. I have always kept a spare set of alloys in the past with Vreristein Winters for the November - Feb fun. In fairness I had a CLS400 so they were a must.
I'm planning a ski trip over new year to Austria and thought it would be a great trial run of the new car. Does anybody have experience in real snow conditions of the Pirelli Scorpions the car comes with? I'm not sure that all seasons are appropriate for the Alps but I'd love to hear how any others have coped with them?

I can tell you now all seasons are in no way good enough if the road is bad, you will need winters.I do believe the M+S are legal though. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Hi

I ran the Pirelli for the Summer but never in the Snow. I know that many rate the Pirelli winter tyres but all I can say is that I had a set on a Jaguar and honestly found them to be of little use in snow.

I ran a set of 19" Avon Ranger Ice & Snow for the 6 winters that I had the RRS and found them to be all but unstoppable. I drove through some truly appalling conditions without any problem at all.

Best to put winter tyres on. I used Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 4 and it meant that I didn't have to use snow chains which I honestly think I would have needed if the car was on summer or even all season M+S tyres. While the car's electrics are clever enough and if used properly, should prevent you from getting stuck or get you out even when you're stuck, I felt the real benefit of winter tyres was in braking performance on icy and slippery surfaces as I found out first hand. Some moments could have been scary at the very least if I was running normal tyres.

Have fun in the snow! Any excuse to share my photos Wink

Thanks. Btw that trip was in my previous Sport MY13 Black Edition. However, I'm contemplating a similar one in the current car. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I've fixed it all... GF and daughter have bitched and moaned so much about it that I've booked flights after all.
I've been desperate to take my F-Type to Italy for 2 years but it's always the same whining 😂 2017 RRS Autobiography SDV6 / 2015 Jag F-Type V8-R
