Not really. Much lower speed (and variable speed), higher torque than a grinder.

I never got on with a DA, seemed to take much longer and be harder work to get results. I use a silverline rotary polisher in conjunction with the 3m perfect-it pads and compound/polishes.

I've got a DAS-6-PRO dual action and also the Silverline rotary and to be honest I only use the DA now, that's probably down to the fact that the paint work only needs a very minor correction now and then. I would think that any of the DA's recommended on this thread would do the job, a lot of people seem to have had good results using the Challenge DA that Argos sell.

Ok guys i have been looking at this below. It is a 710w machine compared to the DAS 6 which is 900w .
Das 6 costs more and has no pads , do you think this one is powerful enough and a good buy?

Just had a quick look on detailing world and found this review

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=5120154

The only other thing you might need is a couple of different cutting compounds.
Oh by the way you might find yourself on a bit of a slippy slope now, as next after correcting your paintwork you'll need some sort of protection be it either a wax or sealant, then you'll probably need a snow foam lance, then you'll have to use the two bucket wash method to stop most of the micro scratches from happening again, then you'd probably want a detailing spray to use after a maintenance wash, etc etc.😜😀👍

Hi David, yes i did see that. I have every thing as i usually do my cars by hand and the paint on them is superb . But some times the car picks up a light scratch even when waxing or polishing so i want to be able to remove these without popping down to my body shop. So really i don't need any thing to extreme, just back up.
Thanks for you help. Thumbs Up SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

So I bought one of these the other day:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IR3...&psc=1

It's an AMAZING bargain, the polisher is well made and doesn't feel cheap, it has an analogue speed controller near the power cord and while I haven't used it yet it feels to have oodles of torque. The kit comes with a decent storage/carry case for the polisher and a cart load of heads and other accessories, oh and it also comes with an extra set of brushes for the polisher!

Shipping was pretty quick too Very Happy

Had a quick go with the buffer over the weekend and I'm really impressed with it. Loads of torque and plenty of speed (controllable), I did rotate the body so that the on/off switch was at the top as I found it awkward to slide/press the switch, it's a quick easy job, just 4 screws, pull the body away a little, twist and then replace the screws.

My only real gripes with it are that there is quite a lot of vibration transfered to my hands, so white knuckle is a destinct possibility if using it for long periods (I'm currently mulling over how I can soften the vibrations, pipe insulation for the handle is obvious, but the body has me stumped haha).
The other is that the half-moon handle has to be removed for the buffer to go back in it's case, it's a very minor thing really, but it's still a couple of mins faffing about taking it apart and putting the bolts and tools away safely and vice-versa.

But other than those two niggles it's a great piece of kit and a fraction of the price the named brands are charging Thumbs Up

Cheers for the update, shame about the vibration, perhaps you could try something like this if you were going to use it for a long time. Not sure if they rob you of any dexterity though.
