Thanks all, think I'm gonna get myself one. With the Bluetooth one I guess I can plug it in and have it record data onto my phone through the journey or something? Anything to help nail this issue down!

You need to be a bit careful you don't knock the £400 bit of kit with your foot, but it is possible to drive with it

Fair enough. Wasn't sure if it was just a cartridge or bulky. I'll order one and find out I suppose!

Around the size of a packet of 20 fags, and only slightly dearer these days I think. Rolling with laughter

Cheers

Took it to the office again today with my fingers crossed the whole way. After around 30 mins it idles a bit rough and there's a definitely lumpy patch around 1100RPM. Coming up to junctions or moving in slow traffic you can feel it. Felt like it was going to conk out on the m4 queuing with the slip road shut Shocked Always worse after giving it the beans for a stretch as well. Probably order the IID in the next couple of days although I'm tempted to drive it half an hour up and down the ring road then straight to the garage.

I've had lumpy idling cars before and had to replace MAF sensors to fix it, has anyone had a faulty MAF on an SC before?

IID tool on the way. Paid a bit over the odds for the sake of getting it quickly as I don't really have the luxury of time getting this sorted. Becoming a PITA whenever I have to drive it to work. Fingers crossed I can take it out for an hour or so with the tool plugged in and get a fault code.

Fault codes

IID reported a lot of fault codes. Slowly search each one on the forum.

A lot of them were raised 2 weeks ago on a morning I'm pretty sure I didn't even drive it.
I'm ignoring the "lost communication with ABS control module" faults as apparently are just info messages.

I couldn't find the last one on a forum search.

I've emailed myself all the faults, think I'll clear them take it for a spin and see what comes up.

Any of the ones above ring a bell? It's not idling particularly smoothly at the moment but nothing new was coming up while the engine ran.

Cheers

Thanks Andy - I'll happily ignore all those!

Chap on the fatty forum posted the brake pedal code, but had no replies. I'm desperately googling it now!

I guess you just replace the switch.

Very common fault so money won't be wasted

Interesting to see if it returns

Hadn't spotted your reply Col, sorry. That particular code hasn't come back since that date. Wondering if it's from when the car went into the garage or something.

I've just taken it for a 55 min blast up and down the ring roads and B roads. It behaved perfectly - typical!

However when I got it back on the driveway it was lumpy when I held the revs at 1000. Let off the accelerator and a couple of lumps on the way back down to idle. This is the same symptom that I experienced on the way to work except on that day it was much much worse.

Not a single fault logged today, but I did notice a sound from the engine at tick over. Aside from the usual idling noise you can hear the odd knock-like noise going on, too. No idea if it's normal, but I don't like the sound of it. Doesn't seem to be made any worse by revving, but it's always there.

Anyone had a similar thing? Getting frustrated now, can't take it to the garage without a fault code really.

Appreciate all the replies so far, thank you.

Could be prematurely worn timing chain guides, from what I’ve read in the past, this is a known issue with the 5.0 SC and is diagnosed by a rattle/knock at idle.
Hopefully someone with more experience will be along to advise you

Don’t want to worry you but be aware, if it is the above it needs to addressed quickly otherwise it’s goodbye engine Big Cry

Could timing chain issues could cause misfires? Maybe that's a good lead...
