Guess it's all down to cost, add 2 wires etc at circa £0.40 each into the harness X the annual prodution of RR Sports, quite a big on cost.

yes actually this does explain why every other car (with rear lights) in existence has the feature and why they are all so bloody expensive!!! Mr. Green ============

Options are simple, either put up with the back of the car being dark or invest 90 minutes of your life and approx £2 and do the mod so that you/your kids can actually see what they are doing with their seat belts etc when they get into the car on these dark winter evenings or buy either a FFRR or Disco as both these cars have rear overhead courtesy lights...

Lack of overhead courtesy lights in the rear of the RRS was/is a massive oversight by LR.

Easy fix , I've tried getting prices from garages first but they just seemed to pull prices out the air . A very easy mod thanks for sharing Thumbs Up

Simon1233, Did you use 2 diodes in this mod? I'm trying to convert the lights in my 2009 RRS and all this information is extremely helpful but although I do not have the experience of running wires I will still attempt to do this. I understand that you are running 1 wire down from each light (left & right) and then joining the other ends to the gray side of the diode and then splicing the other end into the wire from the cargo area light, but where is the other diode?

I also read the original post by Alan but could not see his pictures. I think tying it into the rear cargo light seems easier.

You use 1 diode for the left light
1 diode for the right light.

May as well put the diodes by the trunk light.
so they are together and have easy access.

I'm sure there are 2 other posts about this

Thanks AndyK.

Just so I'm understanding this correctly it's:

A) Reverse the configuration of the black and green/white wires in each courtesy lamps
B) splice a new wire to the Green/White wire from each of the courtesy lamps
C) run the two new wires down towards the cargo area lamp
D) attach a diode to the other end of each new wire
E) splice the other end of the 2 diodes together and attach another piece of wire to that connection
F) splice that wire to the hot wire running from the cargo area lamp

Did I leave anything out?

I think you better re read and I'll check when I get a moment, but.

I think its actually:

Think B & F maybe wrong.

B) The wire goes directly to the bulb holder itself, thus bypassing the switch in the light

Thanks for your help Andy. I will let you know how it turns out. I may not get to it as quickly as I'd like but I will definitely tell you after it's done.

you need to ensure the diode is fitted the correct way round.
else it won't work correctly
