Rasping/Bearing type noise when letting off the accelerator

Hi
I have a 2006 RRS TDV6 Overfinch which drives very well except for a rasping/bearing type noise that I get when I take my foot off the accelerator between 1200 - 1500 rpm. The noise is anything from 1 to 3 seconds then stops.
Also when traveling at any constant speed between 1200 - 1500 rpm I get the same noise constantly. This noise will happen in all gears and sounds like its coming from the bell housing area. I took the car to an Auto Transmission Specialist who diagnosed the noise as being the torque converter. He fitted a new torque converter but the noise is still the same. He then fitted a new drive plate, flex plate, but still the same noise. I called ZF technical & they suggested that I change the transmission pump. I did this & the noise is still the same. I then changed the torque converter again to check that the one fitted wasn't a duff one. The noise is still the same. I have now bought another used gearbox complete with transfer box which I was told are in good working order. First I tried changing only the transfer box & then changed the gearbox too but the noise is still there.
I have measured the end float on the crank to be 0.3mm which I'm told this is okay.
I have spoken to Hunters Land Rover about this being a possible ECU software update, but they tell me that software updates only change the shifting but don't stop noises.
If I jack the car up & get all wheels of the ground, put it into gear & get someone to lightly go on & off the accelerator whilst i'm under the car I can see the torque converter moving about 1mm towards the back of the car whilst its making this noise. The torque converter is bolted to the drive plate, flex plate so it cant actually move much at all but whilst the torque converter is towards the gearbox the noise is there. Then the torque converter moves towards the engine & the noise stops.
I have removed the gearbox 5 times now replacing many parts but haven't managed to fix this problem.
Has anyone ever had this noise before or any ideas what it is or how to fix it.
I'm running out of ideas.. Please help!

Front diff. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

My Auto Transmission specialist suggested that it might be the front diff causing this noise after he fitted the torque converter which didn't fix it, so i removed the front prop & it still made this noise whilst driving at only 3 mph across my driveway, so it cant be the front diff.
Ive read another post on here dating back to 2005 with many RRS & LR3 making this noise but no fix.
Hard to believe that this problem has been common for 10 years but no fix.

Beg to differ. Front diff will growl prop or not. As its a known issue of paint contaminating the oil it would have been first call. Our local specialist has a rolling road so easy to identify that way. But your symptoms are identical to mine before front diff was changed. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I believe it is a noise associated with the turbo (sounds a little like a dump valve, but not as loud, no lasts a little longer?)

Mine was barely noticeable, then as soon s the decat went on, it was immediately louder

I did consider it to be an Autobox noise, as my box is on its last legs. When it gets replaced (with a brand new box) in the coming months, I'll update you Thumbs Up

Yesterday I did a gearbox mega flush & whilst topping up the gearbox fluid with the engine running it made the noise. The car was not in gear & not moving so it can't be the front diff as this was not turning.
As I said in my original post the noise is coming from the bell housing area. If you remove the rubber bung in the bottom of the bell housing you can hear it much louder.
Whilst the car is making this noise the torque converter has move about 1mm towards the gearbox, then the torque converter moves forward towards the engine & this noise stops.
If you get all 4 wheels off the ground & look at the torque converter through the hole in the bottom of the bell housing you can see the torque converter move back & forward as the noise stops & starts as the accelerator is lightly applied & released.
No smoke from the turbo & no loss of power.

Reading old posts on this forum I see this is a common problem with the TDV6.
Does anyone know if the TDV8 or Supercharded RRS have this problem?
Also what about the LR3 with a manual gearbox?
It seems to me that maybe the flexplate is not strong enough & over flexing?
I know the Supercharged RRS has a different flex plate. Does it have this problem?
Other posts on this forum suggest that the RRS TDV6 has made this noise from new in 2005. Is it just a design fault on the flexplate?

Hi,I know it's been a while since this was posted, but did you manage to get to the bottom of the problem or is there anybody else out there who had the same issue and solved it.
Many thanks

Is there a way to identify if it's defiantly the transfer box? I guess an oil change will be my best bet? Is that a straight forward job? Although the car is 12 years old it's only done 90k seems low milwage for a component like that to fail?
