Brake pedal - spongy/pulsating feel

Hello all. Took the car in for service last week with an indi, and part of what I asked to be done additionally was a brake fluid change as I was advised by the same indi a while ago that one of the symptoms that the brake fluid needs changing is a spongy feel in the brake pedal, and I started experiencing this recently. The brake pedal feels like it's traveling further than it should when depresses, with a spongy/pulsating feel, and a kind of bubbling fluid sound if you listen carefully. The exact same symptoms are still there despite the fact that the brake fluid as been changed by the garage (so they claim). I spoke to the garage and they insisted the brake fluid was changed and it must be something else and I should thus bring the car in for further checks. I just wanted some opinions of what it might be before I go to the garage as I am beginning to lose confidence in this garage! many thanks

That description sounds as though there is still air in the system. Maybe it needs bleeding again. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Thank you Russben and geoffsnook. Should this be something that should have be done as part of changing the brake fluid? RRS 2.7 TDV HSE MY07

It would be a natural process to get rid of all the air, that would give you a firm and hard pedal so i would think it has not been completed correctly. So you should ask them to check the system for air or something not completed correctly and re-bleed the brakes as it sounds as if it needs it Thumbs Up

So, eventually got the garage to have another look, after they insisted the brake fluid was changed properly and that's not the problem. They now tell me it is oil that has leaked into the brake servo unit and I need to replace that and a modified pipe (as LR had modified the pipe) at a total cost of £600 (parts and labour)!!! RRS 2.7 TDV HSE MY07

Just an update. After being pulled from pillar to post by a couple of Land Rover dealerships I tried. I eventually got it sorted free of charge last week after contacting Land Rover customer service. Took a few months, but at last a result. Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 TDV HSE MY07

They should have done it right away, we had a recall notice through the post for this on our 55 plate sport. It told us to phone the dealers, they came and collected the car, as it turned out they replaced the pipe, servo and master cylinder, delivered the car back no charge.

Servicing at a genuine LR dealership, will show up what updates and mods haven't been done, as well as always scanning all codes, clear, then retry after a short test run. It's a shame some indys either don't have the facilities, the correct type of test equipment, or don't have the JLR knowledge, some just can't be bothered. John

Hi
This happened to me shortly after buying mine. Actually I lost all brakes when driving home from work " scary" because of the oil vapour.
I bought a new servo and pipe from Land Rover Norwich for £260 and fitted it within an hour.
It's not that difficult to do and will save you a lot of money.
Regards
