United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Firenze Red
Service Intervals

2015 MY HSE Registered 8/4/15 first service on 5/5/16 at 13967 miles.

Now sitting at 22379 miles and indicating service required. Dealer says has to be done etc etc.

I understood service schedule to be 12 months/16k miles so would have though not due for another 5 months or 9k+ miles

Any thoughts?

The service is based on use , something I asked about and no one seems to know. Whether the basis is an Algorithm or proper in car oil analysis. In any case your driving style means you need a more regular oil change, so to extend oil life stop pussy footing it and tramp on the go pedal. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Does anyone have the service schedule, say up to 200,000km? I am interested in the oil change intervals for the auto, transfer box and diffs. 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

The service indicator also seems to be activated by driving environment - if you use the car for lots of short journeys in stop start driving (commuting to work over short distance where the engine is not getting fully warmed), school run or as a supermarket trolley then that will also cause an early service to be required. These conditions will also lead to DPF issues if the car also isn't getting a regular long drive to activate the DPF regeneration cycle. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Some short journeys but mainly longer motorway/A road journeys all over the southern half of Scotland, at least two 100mile plus motorway runs per week. Spoke to local non franchise specialist and he advises very odd for indicator to be on this early.

HAs your oil level risen at all?

If so, that is a danger sign for failed DFP regenerations, and you would need to get the oil changed pronto and the DPF looked into. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Just booked in for first service, December/ So looks like will be a time based service as I have 25,600 up now. 10 months to do the K's . Interesting the dealer had not heard of the fixes?? So I mentioned. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I had the same. March 15 car, serviced 28/2/16 at 12,000 miles

Stated 'next service due at £28,000 miles or 2 years.

Now at 21,000 miles

Had warning that service now due. Rang, Dealer, told me to ignore it and they would re-set. Utter waste of time to have it serviced again within 7000 miles. Sharp practice.

Was in dealers yesterday for a litany of minor faults, some of which seem to have been sorted due to a software update and the squeaky brake issue has now got me a new set of rear pads too.

On Tuesday night the whole infotainment went blank for about 3 minutes. Dealer says an error code was present and that it may need the whole system replaced.

They are still insisting it needs serviced but I do wonder if the erratic 'service required' messages are anything to do with the infotainment issues?

For example the message comes up one day then not again for days. When it did it for the last service it came up every time until the service was done, which is what I would expect. On Monday morning it came up with 'service required in 1200 miles' then on Monday evening, after a 50 mile journey, it came up with 'service required in 350 miles' Quite when the other 800 miles were done is anyones guess?

The dealer explained about 'aborted regenerations' and the likelihood of waste fuel in the sump being a cause but surely then just change the oil and reset the service indicator rather than £600 + vat for a full service. I was told that driving style is the reason and that both short and long journeys cause the 'aborted regens' which makes no logical sense to me but sounds straight out of the book of BS excuses.

So, the cycnical side of me says it suits the dealer as at this rate that means one extra service during its time with me. Its not the money but the principle, the heads they win tails we lose situation.

I would have though most people buying new will buy the service plan but the person who had mine from new for 4 whole weeks didn't? Was told a story as to why they had it for such a short time but I wonder if it was maybe money laundering.

Anyway, any further thoughts?

Don't ignore the service warning unless you want to risk engine damage. Everything related to premature service requests due to diesel dilution of the engine oil is contained in JLRP00100.pdf downloadable here.

So far I have found 3 separate threads on this forum and they are all potentially related to this issue.
