There's emergency codes to disarm it in the event of a product failure.

Having had one on my focus Rs for over a year I ve had no issues.

Having a tracker and a ghost comes back to what I was saying....layering your security products, but be crystal clear that a tracker is reactive and doesn't prevent any theft in the first place, simply increases the chances of recovery. It doesn't take long for thieves to work out where the trackers are put and just yank them out.

It's my area of expertise. Well not so much vehicle security but in general.

I wrote quite an extensive piece for a motorbike club on security as a super bike owner and London resident it's a big issue, most of its adaptable for cars.

Good advice James as I am also like Donny looking into either a tracker cat 5 plus or the Ghost watch. With the new phone app feature on the Ghost watch does this allow you to bypass the 4 pin required to start the car as long as you have your phone with you?

Thanks for that! Smile

Presumably, the emergency codes are user-defined or otherwise unique? What happens, though, if there is a failure mode which doesn't accept the emergency code, or is this technically impossible?

Have you got Ghost on your present car? .....and you'll guess the next question Laughing , if not, why not?

I've read enough to answer that myself Laughing . Yes, a phone with the app. installed if paired using Bluetooth, allows the car to start normally. However, I'm less sure whether this introduces a security weakness or not.

Incidentally, apparently the PIN is any sequence of your choice up to 20 digits long (I've even read it can be 22 digits long! Shocked

Certainly does.
Unlock the car , phone connects to the ghost via Bluetooth , connects as you get in the car, seemlessly generally.
Start car as you would ordinarily.

There service modes so you can turn it on/off when the cars in for service.

Having seen the product , it d be very hard to work out what wires are part of the cars ignition and what are the ghost, needle in haystack springs to mind.

You're getting into having to lowload the car away to steal it.

Of course nothing is 1000 percent full proof. But to repeat myself layering makes it so much aggro and removes the ally of time that thieves often have. It's a fire and forget system I.e requires no switching on etc .

Apathy is generally what catches people out, not bothering to put the steering lock on etc , ' I ll only be a minute ' yada yada.

That minute spent looks mightly attractive when your on the phone to the insurance company for the 20th time chasing a payout.

Thanks James sounds a good system. Did you get it fitted to your new SVR?

That seems a bit extreme as a way of stopping a thief! Laughing

Due to the layering theory, he'd have to kill you if he told you! Laughing

I answered that previously . I have 2 ghost products

One on my Svr , it was fitted this past week and one on my focus Rs which was about a year ago.

I will ask my friend whose the fitter and revert back to you as I don't have all of the answers I m afraid.

I m a fan of any products that works!

With the rise in OBD port theft , bmws, range rovers , ford etc I started researching different products and when I got the focus there was a group buy running on the owners club for tracker and ghost fitting so it seemed a no brainer.

I suggest anyone to do their own research and make up there own minds about what product suits their needs.

Regards

This IS my research! Laughing

Anyway, having read as much as I can, I'm sold on the idea of a Ghost, and am going to order one tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
