Main dealer or independent?

My RRS will be 5 years old in October and due it's next service but would you use a main dealer as all previous history is Land Rover or an independent LR garage ?
Also I have the LR used approved warranty so is there anything to be careful of if I do use a independent?

Main dealer didn't give much confidence as couldn't even tell me what was being done for £550 on the service other than oil and filter. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

I now use an specialist independent, better value and I have more confidence in the work undertaken.
Mine is 4 years old and has LR extended warranty.
As far as I know as long as service schedules are adhered to and OEM parts used, there should be no problem with the warranty.
Touch wood I have not had to test this yet. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

Do independents get access to the electronic system that records services? If they do, I can't personally see a problem assuming they use original LR parts. If I were buying second hand, that's all I'd want to see. (Having said that, some sellers make a big play on 'Full Dealer Service History', but you'd probably save a lot lore than you'd lose on any sale).

If it's under warranty then I would still use a main dealer.

A decent indie every time. The warranty is still ok so long as the correct schedules and parts are used. The big difference is that you'll get a better job done for your money and it will be cheaper too. Double win. Thumbs Up

I've had fewer problems with my RRS since I went to an indie. They haven't broken anything on it yet, to my knowledge (eek, is that the curse of doom?!!), unlike the main dealer. Ask muddywheels of this parish about his experiences of main dealers - dropping his RRS off the ramp was a classic, for example!

If I were buying a used LR these days, I'd see a full LR main dealer service as a warning sign, not a sign of reassurance that it was well looked after. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'll 2nd that Thumbs Up

Had in a 2007 TDV6 that had a full dealer history for 9 years, then local garage with its 2nd owner, and brought into me by its 3rd (and current) owner

7 year service should have had its belts done, but was still on its original belts...

Spoke to a independent yesterday about having the 5 year service and they said £349 with patten parts or whatever the extra cost is of genuine parts plus this included the change of the transfer box oil which the main dealer said was extra but recommended.

At £649 for the same service minus the transfer box oil I think the main dealer might have lost my business.

I would have the genuine parts as then no issues if I need to make use of my warranty.
Also I know this garage and they are very well respected by the defender owners and have a very good reputation for service and repair on any Land Rover. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

I have only ever used main dealers, as haven't found a decent LR independent, unless anyone knows of one, or can recommend one that's either near to North Wales (Llandudno area + up to 50 miles), or North Yorkshire (Scarborough). Many thanks for any advice.

I thought the cost was not too bad for a main Stealer, it was a 6 year service, brake pipes etc as recommended by Land Rover plus I had the timing belts done. Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
