Check for knocks coming from front end, check suspension works as it should.what mileage as it done as the turbo's are prone for going round the 80k mark.plus what's the history like.

There is a known problem with the differentials around 2007. For some reason it is more often the front that fails - symptoms are a speed related thumping noise on overun from highish speeds and may be evidence of leaks from oil seals.
Check front and rear ARB actuators for fluid leaks. These cost £1500 each plus fitting.
Check gearbox for fluid leaks (view from read over top of the undershield) fluid may be visible on the crossmember.
Check operation of gearbox. Changes should be almost seamless with no harsh lurching. Check for vibration from torque converter when accelerating gently up an incline (indicates TC is in need of replacement).
Don't accept it has full service history without seeing the book. Services are annual/15k miles so should have ten stamps.
Good luck as the TDV8 is a great vehicle but there are a lot of poor neglected potential moneypits out there! Get a good warranty. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Ive had 2 tdv8's 1st one was a black 07 kept it about 15 month so it would have been about 4 year old when I px'd it for a 58 plate white tdv8 & the dealer had to spend a fortune on front suspension before they could re sell.To be honest I would NEVER by a car like this without LR warranty.Someone I know bought what they fought was a cheap 08 tdv8 & I said wait till the turbos go,,,,2 weeks later & a big bill from LR to replace turbos,,now it's a expensive RRS.

Thanks guys really appreciate the advice, any suggestions for a tracking device as it's a requirement for my insurance? If the Sport looks and drives well I'm so looking forward to owning it. I will lee you posted of the outcome. Once again many thanks.

Ask your insurance what they require as they are asking you to have a tracker fitted so they know which ones they accept as if you fit one and they don't recognise then they will only ask you to fit the one they do Thumbs Up

There is tons of advice on this forum. I think you need some more research before buying a 10 year old TDV8. You say if it looks and drives well you will look forward to owning it.

Unless you have some experience with RRS, you might not know if it drives well as you may not have enough points of comparison. Be careful buying a 10 year old RRS (unless it's from a member here where it's likely to have been better cared for)

Quite agree with Andy, I have this model fitted too and got a extra 12% discount on premium (and already have 15 years NCD),
Plenty of models about, many insurance people now want a tracker fitted, the extra you pay for this model is well worth it IMHO. Thumbs Up John
