rain sensor not working

hi there
my rain sensor dosent work . am I correct in saying that the same sensor operates the auto lights, as these are working ok. would I just need to replace the sensor of is there something I need to try as the auto lights are working fine ? Having said all that how do I remove the rear view mirror and the housing around the sensor on the windscreen?
Any help greatly appreciated.
thanks

As Tone says, you must move the stalk to position 1 and leave it there for them to operate automatically. If your lights work, there isn't going to be anything wrong with the sensor. What I will say is if your windscreen is minging dirty, that hinders the sensor performance.

Range rover sport always clean no issue with dirt or muck covering the sensor . I have had the stalk at the correct position at 1 but no joy, with the lights working its not the sensor is that correct?
thanks
phil

have a look from the outside, to see if the sensor is ok. it should be blue purple clear with no blisters misty or white.

If as you say the auto lights are working then the sensor is ok and your wipers are working in normal and fast speeds then sounds like a faulty switch when position 1.
The only way to tell would be to exchange the switch for another 1 and see if it works.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

The rain sensitive wipers can be disabled by altering the CCF. I've done this on my own TDV8 because I hate rain sensitive wipers. If the system has never worked since you bought the vehicle, get the CCF read by someone with a suitable plug-in system. I did mine with my IID Tool. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
