Diesel Parking Charge

'D-charge' trial of £2.45 bill for diesel drivers launched in central London

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/d...72926.html

this is from the evening standard, I do see this as the "thin end of the wedge" its an easy tax raising measure and I can't see this being limited to the most polluting cars. It'll just be "Diesel is bad", makes me nervous about buying a diesel RRS. Too much of this and in 3 years they could be a liability. Petrol/Hybrid or PCP (with GFV) maybe ?

Good spot - looked at a couple of other reports/articles most miss the pre-2015 point which is somewhat fundamental.

Other option is to not take a diesel engined car into Central London.......... I wonder how all the cabbies will fare when they are waiting on a taxi rank as many black cabs are diesels.
Even better, just don't go to London, there are plenty of nicer places around the UK that won't be charging a diesel tax, cheaper to live in, less rat race, fewer illegal immigrants ................. but please don't all rush to live in Central Scotland, it's crowded enough as it is! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes, councils never see the irony of their policies, do they?

They should charge more for moving vehicles, not parked ones. In fact, they should be encouraging polluting vehicles to park!

It's also ironic how, when a car is over its parking time, they clamp it, thereby preventing it doing the thing they want ie to move it on. Shocked

Unfortunately, politicians want to be seen to be taking a stance in the wake of VW et al.

It is a case of 'don`t confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up'.

Somebody is talking sensibly about Euro6 Diesels and the choice we have to make - CO2 or Air Quality basically, and CO2 has by far the worse conscequences for the world - global warming.

He certainly is, but if voters grow a brain cell, he shouldn't last till 2025 like he expects to for his plans. John

I also see that he aims to reduce speed limits to 20mph in Central London.............. whenever I walk through the west end during the day it seems that I overtake most of the traffic at my walking pace. He must be too used to his chauffeur driven limo with police outriders clearing the streets ahead of his cavalcade 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Proof the mayor has no sense or understanding re pollution issues and cars.
At his 20mph instead of 30/40mph vehicles use more fuel and emit far larger amounts of pollution into the atmosphere at 20mph, I don't hardly start going through the gears at that speed, so it's much more costly and far more poisons being ejected, madness,
Same as having speed ramps watching people speed up in between then heavy braking, which of course also causes the same problem. Whistle John
