Window tint

Hi

After a lot of deliberation I finally decided the balance between the front and rear with the privacy glass just didn't work.
I sort of think it would have been good if LR had an option to give me the 30% on the front two windows (not the windscreen) that's within the legal boundary

I also appreciate a lot of discussion on the forum I see on blacked out windows, the drug dealer look however I opted to get the max legal tint on the two front windows only 30% so actually quite subtle

I am super happy with the subtle difference and honestly when I drive the glare reduction is significant

Each one to there own, I'm sure a lot will not like it but the overall look and improvement in the interior feel and less glare I'm very satisfied with

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Looks fab Cool Apart from colour, is it easy to tell that the back are factory fit, and the front is aftermarket; or is the quality appreciably the same? And do you mind me asking who did it and rough cost? Thanks Current: Cayenne GTS (got fed up with waiting for LR to build my third RRS)
On order: RRS3 510e AB
Gone: RRS SDV8 AB, RRS SDV6, Vauxhall Nova 1.0, Nova 1.3 SR, Nova 1.4 SRi, Renault Laguna (why?), BMW 318is coupe (fabulous - despite having to buy a radio and tape player for it from Halfords), 323i saloon, 325ti compact (superb), 320td compact (awful), VW Golf 2.0d 4Motion (all the car you really need), BMW 120d compact (excellent), 118d compact (slow), 335d coupe (rapid)

Thanks 👍

Good question on the mix on Oem and retrofit it was a big part of my deliberation. The look tbh is seamless and it has a balance now that fits the car imho compared to the bit extreme look with only the rear privacy glass

I had it done at a local independent ACE in Shrewsbury I opted for the optimum plus film with lifetime warranty fully installed for £104 so honestly not a huge investment

When they come out of the factory the front side windows are already tinted to the legal requirement,,if you get a pull by the plod they could ask you to remove the tint.but I have to admit it does look better & iSight just get mine done now Ive seen yours.when I was at Vosa on a mot refresher course last year a guy turned up with his front side windows tinted & they made him remove the tint before he went home.

Looks great!, and I might well go that route on my next one.

I can't perceive any tint on my front windows ex factory though? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

They all do but it is greenish not limo black - my 2015 HSE Dynamic has it but it is almost invisible. Also the front side windows are specially treated with a water repellent "hydrophobic" coating on all Land Rover cars, applying film to the outside of the glass ruins the treatment and it won't work. LR were until recently the only car maker to use this treatment which was developed at Leicester university from a natural chemical secreted by butterflies to repell water from their wings........... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Interesting I actually had it checked now with a light meter at a friends workshop and it's fully legal so I guess it didn't have any on before the tint could just be the my17 has had it removed usual cost savings I guess

Not sure how others do it but the film was applied on the inside of my glass but I rainx anyway 😊

In a lot of cases I agree but I very carefully follow the rules and keep it to less than 30%

https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules

And it has been rechecked after the tint and it is more than the 70% light transfer so it is quite legal
