United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Adriatic Blue
Engine Super Quiet in P but not in D

Hi All,

I have a question some of you may of have a theory for, I hope so because I dont.

When I have the Rover in P (Park) and I rev the engine it is super quiet and I mean like a new Rover quiet, as soon as I move the auto stick to P the engine noise changes tone to a noisy level and whether I am moving forward or not the engine sounds like something small is rattling.

Hard to describe but just wanted to see what the forums users thoughts are on this.

Thanks,
Csharper

Have you checked for loose heat shields ? Do you get a judder threw the car on light acceleration if so could be the torque converter. A few people have described hearing a rattle on the D3 site under similar conditions to what your describing.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Well, the revs will sit down a touch when you put it in "D", could be a vibration-induced resonance somewhere - heatshields as mentioned is a good place to start I suppose. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
