2245 and not quite in the land of the midnight sun

We have just had a lovely sunset after a fantastic day here and I thought I would get some dusk photos of the (rather dirty having sat all last week in an airport carpark after a day of off-roading the previous Sunday) RRS. It helps that I live at latitude 56N and at this time of year it gets twilight round 2245 - those further north don't quite have midnight sun but it doesn't get dark - it does here for a couple of hours and then I have to suffer dawn chorus from around 0230......... BTW there was enough daylight and an auto shutter/aperture setting that my little Fuji X20 camera didn't need it's flash either

The late sun has changed the colour somewhat, looks nice with that pink tinge Smile

Yes at 59N where I live it's a legality to put on vehicle lights but not actually required for seeing. It's a pest trying to persuade young bairns it is actually bedtime though - "but Dad, it's not night time yet". Winter of course is different, short days... it's often tempting to chuck them in bed before tea as it's dark from 3:30pm Laughing
Unfortunately I'm not there just now, it's quite a difference leaving lit nights to go back to work in the middle east where it's now dark at 8:30pm, and only light about 5am. I should be thankful really as even working nightshift like I am at the moment my coveralls still need wrung out due to the night heat, so at least there's no sun to add to it. Daytime is almost too much, and it's barely summer yet here. Only 2 weeks left to go now though...

Dennis I too have worked many years in the Middle East but now work in Equatorial Africa - there is hardly any twilight, darkness comes like somebody flicked a switch and then the nights are really dark but with millions of twinkling stars! My lady friend went to Dubai for the first time in January - I told her to make sure she packed some warm clothes as well as the beachwear and she didn't believe me..... 2nd day in she was off to the Dubai Mall to buy a North Face fleece! In 2010 I spent December to March at Dubai drydock and twice we had very fine snow at night - it didn't settle but it was due to the north winds coming from Iran which was under several feet of snow in Tehran. Was also in Aqaba a few years ago when we all woke up to sea the tops of the mountains in Sinai and Saudi were white - it was the first recorded heavy snow fall in both countries! The highway from Aqaba to Amman was closed for about 4 days due to snow drifts too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
