Clicking noise and easing in roundabouts:

Hi Everybody,
I have recently purchased a 2008 RRS-Hse and bought it under good authority that the car was really good, an upgrade on my 2007 HSE and with the same milage. WELL! where do I start? Lets just say £3k later I'm nearly there. There is one problem that has me, my machanic and my local Land Rover mechanic stumped. When driving straight my car sounds and drives fab, when going round roundabouts everything is good "mostly"BUT, every so often I get a repeated clicking noise and car seems to ease but keeps moving. Then as it starts it stops! It is not the cv joints I have been informed and nobody as yet can given me a definite diagnosis. Can anybody help me as to what my problem maybe? please. Big Cry

Dave Higgy

Italy 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I was surfing the forum since i am experiencing the same noise on my MY2010 3.0 RRS
It happens to mine only when turning to the left, roundabouts or tight turns, low speed and high angle of steering (parking as well). Nothing heard from inside the cockpit (yet...i hope it will not get worse!), just with the windows open.

Glad i am not the only one...sad no one has already given any hint.

UP!

Smile

Can you eliminate wheel bearings? Robin

A ticking when turning is most likely a CV joint, to be honest.

A grand to replace a wheel bearing!! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

One other thought - what size wheels and tyres are fitted? One wonders if it might just be something rubbing when on/near full lock. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Many thanks RRSTDV8, I am not a mechanic so I have to rely on others to do my work for me and of course this cost "lots-a-lolly" so the grand was parts labour for wheel bearing and drive shaft, if I'd have gone to my local Range Rover dealer he was quoting over £1600 plus vat! So it was quite cheap. I was informed that it is not CV joint as both sides were tested. As for the wheels they are genuine Ranger Rover wheels with Michelin tyres... I could drive it up to Northamptoshire and see a decent bloke up there and see if he knows how to find my issue!

Cheers again, it is always welcome to get some feedback.

I see you're in Surrey. If you ever travel eastwards into Sussex, then I would recommend that you consider popping in to see the guys who sorted out my issues. Groombridges in Heathfield are LR only repair garage who have been going for many years and have an in depth knowledge of these cars. Of course there's no guarantee that they can solve your issue, but if its not out of your way it would be worth a visit. Robin

Well changing the driveshaft (half shaft) is one way of checking the CV joint isn't the issue I suppose. The CV joint is part of the shaft assembly... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Good. Might be worth giving them a ring first although I didn't when I first went there. I just turned up and they went straight out with me on a test drive and diagnosed my problem within 5 minutes.

And note it's not easy to find - down a lane then up a drive behind a house. But don't be put off. It might look weird but they know what they're talking about when it comes to LR. Don't expect a glossy showroom and suited and booted receptionists. Expect a greasy grumbling chap who appears to think you are disturbing his morning. Smile He's not thinkning that but you'll see what I mean. Thumbs Up Robin
