MY17 ICTP Spotify Android & iOS

Hi all

I have the iphone 7 which is essentially a pain in the ass when it comes to ICTP connectivity. The USB cable has to connected for it to work and it is extremely temperamental with frequent connection error messages etc. I mainly only use it for Spotify and half the time it fails to open up/connect properly.

Before I jump in and switch to Android can someone enlighten me as to whether Android works better, I understand it doesn't need to have the USB connected? Does Spotify work wirelessly and reliably and any how is it in general?

Also if any other iPhone users have a reliable ICTP connection please enlighten me as perhaps I am missing something?!

P.S. I do have the data sim installed too if that has any significance although the Spotify issues were the same prior to the Data sim installation... Cheers

I find it works better if i ensure the spotify app is closed before i connect it - doesn't seem to like spotify running in the background in addition to Incontrol touch..

Jimbo,

I'm primarily a Spotify user and I have the same problems. It's irritating but not to the point of taking it back to the dealer. I've learned a couple of tricks which seem to make connecting more reliable but far from 100%.

Close all apps on the phone
Start up the car and leave it for a minute for the system to boot up
Plug in the phone
Switch to ICTP Apps on the car touchscreen
Accept the 'connect' message on the phone
Go through a couple of cycles of 'can't connect' on the car touchscreen as required.

Like you, I've gone through various frustrating permutations of pulling the wire out, switching the phone off/on etc but the above delivers the most consistent success for me. 2017 SDV6 Autobiography; Carpathian Grey, Ivory, Soft Close, Extended Grand Black.

Cheers guys, ironically I've tried and tested manyof the same things in closing the spotify app etc and have also found leaving it for a minute or so before connecting the phone can help. Just a shame it's not seamless as it should be, the wife's 4 series connects wirelessly, seamlessly and starts and stops spotify automatically when getting in the car!! I will admit it's not the full spotify menu but I prefer it. Another gripe is when you select a playlist it plays automatically and doesn't show the actual songs in the playlist?! So if you want song number 70 it's a right ball ache, unless you've found a way around that gents??!!

I've never used Spotify - sorry if I misled you. Embarassed IIt certainly does everything else I've ever tried through Bluetooth, and is absolutely instant.

Absolutely no worries, good to know the rest of in car apps works too, have you tried any others? Hopefully someone out there will have tried Spotify wirelessly with an Android phone and let us know how it is..

I haven't found a way around that. My thoughts were that I had limited functionality because I was a freebie Spotify user not a full paid-up member. I'm an Aberdonian after all....

Ha ha, no it's the same with premium, it's like it just doesn't bother with the tracks menu!

I think I've got it sussed; you plug in your iPhone, then open the incontrol app on the phone. Works 95% of the time...

If I leave it to the auto start system it usually doesn't work.

Edit: I have an iPhone 7+ 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

I've just changed from a Galaxy S7 Edge to an iphone 7, because spotifiy is not supported with Land Rover apps on Andriod, it does connect and play fine, but if you want to change albums you need to pick up your phone to do it, also I found that spotifiy wuold just stop and to get it going again I had to turn the media system off and back on again.

Does anybody else find it difficult to find a suitable spot for their phone? I don't like it in the slot in front of the gear lever, because I can't see the screen.

I've ended up slotting my wallet in the cup holder vertically, then resting my phone on top of that. If I don't put my wallet there, the phone slides down into the cup holder space. Not perfect, but it works.. 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

Hi, Today for the first time my Samsung s7 has let spotify into the incontrol apps. i went to the car and it connected straight away. The screen set out in the incontrol is in the same way as the the phone app. It works a treat. Hope spotify is now sorted for the android phones. Very Happy
