Help - To buy or not to buy?

Hi, firstly i would like to say i am new to this forum, so hello everyone.

My 2004 Ford Focus is coming to an end due to bad corrosion underneath. My last MOT cost me £700!!

I have never owned a Land Rover/Range Rover previously, and the stories of poor reliability, high costs of running a Range Rover is kind of scary to be honest.

My friend purchased a 2013 Range Rover Sport Black, V6 3 litre diesel auto from Stratstone Land Rover in September 2016. It was sold with the Land Rover Approved 2 year warranty. Whilst he says he likes the RRS, he travels a total of 100 miles per day so has decided to sell it. The RRS has approximately 18 months of the warranty left and was serviced recently. He has been offered £25k by an online used car buyer. However he has offered it to me for £24k.

The RRS currently has 65k miles on the clock.

Now my questions?

Is this a good deal?
Are there any things i should look out for on this 2013 (old shape) model?
Is the approved Land Rover warranty transferrable to me?

I am keen to buy a vehicle that is reliable, that can last me a good few years. I always service my cars on a yearly basis.

When i checked the previous MOT on this vehicle, carried out in July 2016 before my friend purchased it from Stratstone Land Rover, it had the following advisory:

Advisory notice item(s)
nearside rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
offside rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)

My friend wasnt aware of this, however, shouldn't Stratstone have sorted the brake pads before selling it?

Does anyone know if there is any MOT Warranty included as part of the Land Rover Approved Warranty? From ehat i understand Land Rover will cover the costs for any work required on the first MOT?

My last car (Ford Focus) cost me £7k in 2005, when one year old. So spending £20k + is rather daunting as i am not filthy rich.

I am aware that Range Rover sports do hold their value. I visted my local Farnell dealership earlier and they had a 2012 RRS with 47k miles and were asking £28k

Any feedback would be appreciated.

The brake pad advisory is nothing - pads are not expensive.

But a fact of ownership of these is the odd £500-£1000 bill. They are not cheap to fix when they break. But the good folks here will always point you in the right direction to save a few bob.

I must ask, why would he willingly lose a grand like that? Maybe they offered him £23k and a £23.5k offer may clinch it. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

It does sound like you need a new car, but does an RRS what fits your requirements ?

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

I purchased a Feb 2013 autobiography (last of old shape) 3 years ago from the dealers which was just over 1 years old with 26k on it. I got the additional 2y LR warrantee which gave me a total of nearly 3 years (like a new one!)
I now have over 70k on the car and one thing I will say, I have not had any of the so called 'standard' faults I had with my old 06 2.7 (which I still own and is still running great).
LR seem to have resolved most of their issues with the RRS just before they stopped making the old shape.
I may just have had a good one, I have been very pleased with mine.
I may even keep it another couple of years before jumping ship to a Full Fat (I just don't like the new shape).

P.s I forgot to say... I had my front pads needing changing only 4 months after I purchased, The dealer paid for the repair, so get back onto the supplying dealer, they should not be selling cars with worn out pads. RRS HSE with a few extras & a

I agree with your sentiment about the new shape. It just looks too like the Evoque. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

I think 24k for a 2013 RRS sounds like a very good price depending on condition.

And that is a problem? Looking like the biggest selling Land Rover product of all time is an issue? Personally I think L494 takes way too many styling cues from the FFRR, but I don't think that is a big problem. From experience of owning 3 RRS's and 2 Evoques I don't see much similarity between the L494 and an Evoque. Evoque looks like a squashed frog, RRS is much more pleasing on the eye. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

And that is a problem?

It's a form of snobbery, I think. Lots of people think the Evoque shouldn't have RR badging. Of course lots of FFRR owners think the RRS is no better in that regard... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The real issue with the L494 looking so much like the evoque is its so hard to tell them apart at a glance or at a distance, until you have something for reference of its size. I think they're smart looking cars, I just don't like looking at one and not knowing if it's a RRS, evoque or DS, particularly from the front 3/4 view.

I guess it depends what people/market want.

Do you want a tall car you have to climb into and get loads of stuff in the back.

or do you want a short car, with a RR badge that you can charge loads of money for?

It's getting very confusing will all these small LandRovers about.

I'm sure they should have a tall one apart from the FF, or is there idea to make that one shorter too ?
