2011 low battery start engine and FBH wont work

I have received the message low battery start engine on and off for months. One morning failed to start and so I replaced the battery at a local friends garage and not a main dealer. I'm still getting the same message appearing and i cannot use the FBH either. i believe the 2 may be connected as the FBH needs a suitable amount in the battery to operate. Im been advised now to change the alternator as the garage claim it must be that at fault. however im not 100% convinced. Has anyone got any similar experiences to this?

i had the low battery message come up so i changed the battery to a bosch i also bought a ctek charger to keep it topped up as i only do short journeys, everything seemed fine until the winter then the alternator cooked its self, seemed like a new battery only masked the real problem, also now my FBH is locked out i think due to low voltage so i had my battery checked out and its not running at full strength only CCA at 601 instead of 830 so i had to buy another new battery.

Seems quite a few threads re this issue with 2010/2011 vehicles. They talk of an update to the instrument pack, BMS that needs resetting when you put a new battery etc. I'm about to put a new alternator on but I'm not 100% convinced its this issue after reading a few threads.
