Knocking noise and leak!

Hi all!

I am new to the forum. I purchased a 55 Plate RRS 4.2 Supercharged a couple of weeks ago.

I have a knocking/thudding noise when i am doing over 40mph and turning the wheel left, even slightly left starts the noise and i can feel it in the steering wheel. The faster and harder i turn, the louder the sound. A local specialist told me it could be the drivers side wheel bearing? The garage i bought the car off are looking into it this week. Firstly they are going to realign all the wheels and steering and see if that solves it. Does this sound like it can be caused by misalignment?

Secondly, i noticed a leak by the drivers front wheel. I thought it was thin oil. The garage has looked at this and have said that it is the Oil Cooler and they are sourcing a part to replace it. Is this a common fault and would there be any associated problems connected to it?

Sorry i am not very mechanically minded.
Has anyone had any of these problems?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The oil cooler in the front right bumper/wheel arch has coolant in it, not oil. It's a radiator and helps to cool the oil cooler itself which is down at the bottom of the engine bay. Are you sure the liquid you have found is oil and not just coolant?

As for problems, so long as the coolant level in the expansion bottle hasn't dropped below the minimum line, it shouldn't be a problem. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

At first glance as I am not very mechanically minded I thought it was oil. But as it was going back to the garage to have the knocking noise looked at I thought I would leave it with them to check the leak too. It may be coolant then (hopefully) as it was quite thin stuff but it did seem to leave a oily like patch on the floor?

Just to update: The oil leaking from the front drivers side tyre was the oil cooler leaking.
The knocking noise was down to both front wheel bearings being nackered.
