Running in period

I'm sure my user manual will mention it but could anyone tell me what if any engine breaking in rules they are observing on their new MY16s?

Drive it like you stole it from the get go. These engines don't need breaking in.

I remember an old thread that covered this , basically drive it as you would normally, fast sometimes and even faster and harder the rest of the time .

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

With today's smarter automatic gearboxes there is much less chance of the engine labouring at low revs in a high gear or (unless you are very mechanically unsympathetic) running for long periods in a low gear at skyhigh revs. Just go out and enjoy it in a good variety of driving conditions. My "running in" periods for the last cars has been a drive along the A40 or around the North Circular Road then 360 miles on the motorways from London to Central Scotland. Many would say not the ideal running in period driving for 7-8 hours at almost constant RPM. One problem I had with my current RRS was holding back from pressing on too fast, even as a diesel it is a very easy car to drive a lot faster than you think are doing! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I think more important is to ensure the engine is always warmed up before exploiting the higher ranges. One of my cars has a blue indicator which goes out when the oil temperature reaches 70C. Until then, there's a lower rev limiter in effect, still 7000 rpm though. Mark
