Satnav - shortest route ?

Hi,

Is it possible to get the satnav to give the shortest route ? Mine isn't the most intuitive but after getting lost in the system a few times I found the ability to choose one of 3 different routes- none of which are the shortest.

Most car based satnavs I've used give options such as fastest, shortest and dynamic...but not the LRs.

Am I missing something or an upgrade perhaps ?

Grateful for any help/pointers or confirmation that it's crap.

CHeers

David

I don't use mine a lot but the times I have done after selecting the destination I get 3 options for the route, shown on the map in different colours. If you select each one in turn it gives the distance and time ( I think) for each route. I assumed these were shortest / fastest etc. As you say, no option to directly search for the shortest route.
I suppose it depends on how up to date your maps are as to it giving you the best routes 2010 RRS, TDV8

Not very familiar with the new systems, but the old ones have "Quick", "Short" (i.e. not superlatives) and "Normal" (what's that then? Laughing ), so perhaps the same logic has been applied? Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I regularly go SE London to Stranraer and I like to go M11 A1 A66 M6 A75. However hard I try and change the settings, I can never get the SatNav to give me that route as an option. Even at Newark, it reckons hanging a left down the M62 and then joining M6 near Manchester is the best/quickest option. I have to get north of York on the A1 before it gives up trying to turn me around and back down to the M62 and picks the A1/66/M6 option. Similar on the way back, have to be past the M18 before it gives up on pushing me down the M1.

Waypoints just confuse it further...
