Approved Service Plan

I've ordered this on a new RRS coming in September £699.

Does anyone have a view on whether it is worth doing?

Per the RR site:

"Enjoy complete peace of mind with five years of expert servicing. For a one-off payment of £699, the Approved Service Plan provides the first five years or 50,000* miles. All work is carried out by Trained Technicians at a Land Rover Approved Service Centre of your choice. The Approved Service Plan is available for 90 days from the date your new vehicle is registered."

The dealer is likely to charge around £5-600 for its 2nd service alone, so a little extra for the first 3 services (@ 16k intervals) is a no brainer, even if you have to pay for it. If you do low miles, then it looks as though you will get all 5 years servicing out of them, which is even better value

That said, I have not read the small print on the offer...

It does of course only cover standard scheduled maintenance and things subject to wear and tear will still cost. Brakes, Tyres, potentially suspension components, timing belts snd so on. But still worth having, especially when you think of what the dealer charges for a litre of oil. Mark

The UK is still in Europe, at least for another year or so.

The small print says the car SHOULD be serviced in the UK, otherwise the plan MAY be invalidated. That leaves some wriggle room but you can be certain their first response would be "No". The plan is not actually administered by LR. Mark

Servicing at a main dealer is like painting your rubbish bags gold to impress people, if I had the choice between letting a selection of5 17-18year old apprentices overlooked by one master technician service my car, or a non dealer specialist use genuine parts for half the cost I know exactly what id be doing!

Depends on the dealer of course. I've just had two attempts at getting the geometry of a 911 sorted out. A widely recommended specialist mis-diagnosed a problem; the second attempt at a Porsche dealer sorted it out and cost less and the two guys working on it were certainly under 30. It would be good to think the LR dealers would be the same but I do accept that's a bit of a leap of faith. Mark
