275 45 20 Grabber A/T fitted

Just had a set of 275 45 20 Grabber A/T fitted by Andy and his team at AJS tyres, very professional service and come highly recommended to any of you forum guys or girls that need new shoes at a great price. Hi,
Thinking of getting a set of these too. I have 275 40 20 fitted, will the increased side wall to 45 make any difference to speedometer etc ? Thumbs Up 2.7 HSE, Audi A6 Exec, Honda Accord Exec, Volvo 440, Volvo 360

Hi Fish,
From what I have read through on the forum I don't think it makes much difference but I'm no expert on this, hopefully someone will chip in to give you the answer you are looking for Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

The speedo would be under reading by about 3.6%. Given that it will be set to over read a little, I wouldn't think this would be an issue if you keep it in mind (In fact, it will probably give a closer reading to the true speed). Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Yes, the error is quite big, just had a look at an on line tyre bible and it look like I would need to get 275x45x19 to get a rolling circumference with an error of just 0.29%.
Looks like i'll be scouring the market for 19's and tyres when funds allow Big Cry 2.7 HSE, Audi A6 Exec, Honda Accord Exec, Volvo 440, Volvo 360

I wouldn't worry about it. Look at it this way; If you're speedo were 100% accurate (which it won't be), then when it's reading 70, you'd be doing about 72.52 - Well below the 10% + 2mph suggested (and it is only suggested) tolerance used by the police. Wink

The wheel size can be corrected in the CCF, but, I understand, this is a little difficult to get right on the older vehicles. Thumbs Up

Of course, in the end, AT tyres on 20 inch rims is a bit of an oxymoron... Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Oxymoron Laughing I see where your coming from but I rather like the 20s, and for what I use my sport for they seem like an ideal tyre for my needs with a little more sidewall protection and some extra grip when the going gets tuff. Yes, with the excellent tread life and less noticable economy decreases reported, it's never a bad choice. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

there is another thread on the GG AT's in the Off Roading section, just to say i have found them
brilliant on long trips and some serious off roading in Cape York, but very weak side walls have
leaned towards a number of punctures in the last two outings (3 in total), so you have to treat them
very daintily off road it seems.. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

One thing I have found with the GG AT is that it seems to be susceptible to embedding of stones in the tread blocks. Not just in the sipes but the actual rubber itself.

Just put a fresh set on mine as I couldn't source any Pirelli ATRs, sadly. I like the GG AT for its undoubted ability away from tarmac but it does seem to be a bit too soft at times when faced with stones. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I haven't noticed any stones embedded in the actual rubber yet but it seems to attract lots in the tread block sipes as you say. I'm amazed they can make a tyre that has such soft rubber yet last so long!? Bow down 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
