Drivers door lock replacement?

Has anyone done this themselves?

Only asking as it looks like i have the dreaded actuator failure that seems to be a common issue, door not locking etc, I got a price on the parts from the stealer at £109.34. and they have them in stock. (seemed steep as every where else i was reading said around the £40+vat).

I've found the how to guides for the disco3. and after removing the door panel yesterday to have a quick look, it looks pretty much identical. Just a little concerned with the window removal.

Any tips from anyone who has done this greatfully appriciated.

I currently have the same issue, driving me crazy. Cars booked in tommorow morning at a local indie, hopefully they will be able to sort it Current 2010 Range Rover Sport HSE with the usual toys: timed climate, Rosen headrest screens, tow bar with twin electrics, Blackvue HD cam

Hello.
I have changed all locks on my rrs so far. The rear doors are slightly harder than the front due to access. The locks are easy to replace, access is just a bit awkward. It is usually easier to remove the window glass from the runner (just clips off) so you can get access to the lock.

I too have the same issue on front and rear near side, can anybody share the cheapest place to buy from as the only ones I can find are around £100 each mark? Thanks

£100 is what they cost from dealers, I wouldn't entertain getting second hand unit as this seems to be a rather common fault. There's a guy on here selling a new one http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post463253.html#463253.

mine is booked in for the same fault, my indie has quoted me nearly £200, thats for the lock, 2 hours labour and vat 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

They used to be £40 a piece. As ever, with LR, once they start selling a few of them, the prices go up and up Rolling Eyes

They are around £100 each now, and take a little over an hour to fit Thumbs Up

Ok well I got my door lock changed this morning, took me 1.5hrs and the only tools used were 10mm socket and ratchet, screw driver with 2 torn bits small flat and Philips bit.

The only advice I would say is NOT TO DROP THE WINDOW, these both suggest undoing the window 5-6inches. There's no need and this just makes things very awkward. My alternative would be keep the window up fully, remove all the 4 bolts and 2 nuts from the black window mechanism panel, and then with a bit of gentle persuasion push on the panel so the 2 top threads go back in to the door cavity thus dropping the whole window and panel down. This opens up a gap allowing you to gain access to both the White window retaining clips, one via the speaker hole and the other through the hole what's just been created.

Then after i released the white clips holding the window to the mechanism I got the wife to hold the window up as I removed the guide and mechanism, then using a bit of 4x2 wood put inside the door panel holding up the window glass allowing me to remove and replace the lock.

I take the window off the regulator, and tape it over the door frame, to stop it dropping down

Gives you a whole lot more room to work in Thumbs Up

Blimey thats a good price my indy charged me £330 for the latch and 2 hours labour Shocked

We should start a thread on price comparisons as we all seem to have the same jobs done.

Yes I done that, it's just everyone was saying to undo the window to be able to gain access to the white clips and then as quoted

"Before starting lower the window by approx 5" (not strictly necessary but helps). I didn't bother disconnecting the battery and encountered no error codes.

Now the fiddly bits begin. The door glass is held to the regulator in two places on the guides. The guides are fairly chunky bits of plastic. To release the glass you simply prise open, by pulling the top edge of the guides towards the outer skin (action shown in red on following picture) while you 'lift' the glass from its guide. To get to the rear most guide you need to get your whole arm into the cavity behind the regulator.


What I'm saying is there's no need for this if you just push the window mechanism into the door, it gives ample access.

Mine seems honest enough, as other peoples prices seem ok, the lock is betweem £98 and £110 depending on dealer, my indie charges £35 an hour labour, though this is now £40 for new customers, so around £200 semms a fair price 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Hi everyone I am new to this but I also had a problem with the drivers door not locking, booked it into the garage and was told the door lock mechanism needed replacing, after ordering a new one online which is due tomorrow for the price of £70.00 I decided to do some research and someone placed a post that said it could be a loose connection under the drivers seat could be the problem. So I decided to have a look myself and I fiddled about with the wiring ( don't know which wire ) but this has rectified the fault. Don't know if this is any use to anyone but it's worth a shot it worked for me.
I don't know if anyone knows a good Range Rover specialist near Portsmouth not main dealer prices and attitude.
Hope this post help someone.
