Wheel Cleaning

hi there,

recently bought RRS TDV8 on a 57 plate. Love the car!

I was wondering what the best wheel cleaning product is? Does anyone have any recommendations please? Have got Wonder Wheels that was used on last car but not sure if this will damage the RRS alloys

Thanks

I use Auto Smart alloy wheel cleaner, never failed to budge the worse grime/brake dust.

Might be a coincidence, but I noticed staining/streaks on mine after using wonder wheels?
Used it on my XF previous to the RRS with no problems... So it might just be me putting 2+2 together and making 5

I use Auto Glym wheel cleaner now (came with the car life-shine pack) no acid, seems to work good.

wonder wheels should not damage the alloys if they are intact and free of chips, as long as you follow the instructions and do not let it dwell for too long

if you have baked on brake dust, try something like Iron X Gel, if its bad Iron X paste and ones purple jet off, then on to a clean with (wonder wheels) or something acid free

main thing, is don't scrub as this will marr the finish, soft wheel brushes, regularly rinsed in a bucket, as brake dust is very abrasive and thew biggest thing to do once clean is seal them with a good high temp wheel wax, or even better a nano sealant

I swear by Bilt Hamber, won all the tests a year or so ago - spray on, wait for it to go purple and power hose off. Use a wheel brush for any stubborn areas. It even brought my calipers up a treat...The best part is that its PH Neutral so its safe for all types of wheel as well

Mark,

I have always used Meguire's wheel cleaner. Been using it for over 10 years. Spray it on and leave it for a couple of minutes and you only have to gently agitate any stuck on brake dust with a non corrosive brush and just rinse it all off. Absolutely no smear marks or stains and I live in a hard water area.

Once you've got them clean I highly recommend this http://gtechniq.com/products/auto/perfect/...eel-armour

It's not cheap but it means you can just rinse the dust off your wheels for quite a while.

The wheels do need to be clean though so it's worth taking them off and doing a proper job.

I've used many of the products since I've been interested in having a clean car but you can't beat wonder wheels for the value

http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/cl...aner-500ml

it says no brushing required i use a small soft paint brush for the corners but its currently 3 for 2 so an excuse to buy some more stuff Thumbs Up

I got some of the Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels for use on exactly the same wheels you have and it worked a treat, stripped all the dirt and grime off and left them very clean. Did a god job on the winter's baked on brake dust too but I also used a wheel brush to agitate it. Got it on the three for two offer at Halfords, it was the free product, but if you're only buying it on it's own watch the price.

Halfords have 500ml for £9.99 but if you've a Wilko's (or Wilkinson's) nearby they have 750ml for £6.00. I'm sure I've also seen it at this price in one of the supermarkets but can't remember which one. Cheers

Billberry or Chemical Guys for the cleaner, if you want a wax rather than ceramic coating, either Poorboys Wheel Sealant of FinishKare 1000p wax works wonders.

Cheers..

I've just waxed my wheels with poorboys wax,I've given them 3 coats as recommended it took me 5-6 hours to do all 4 wheels then I clean with Bilberry as its acid free so no damage to the alloys.
