Emergency access when the key fob/ battery goes flat

Ever wondered what the little lock symbol on your passenger side door handle trim is for?

Next time you are round that side of the car bend down and look under the handle and you will see a keyhole on the base of the fixed plastic trim. Inserting the ignition key will unlock this cover exposing an emegency lock for overriding the cenral locking system. It will set off the alarm if you open the door but at least you will be able to get in and disable that and start the engine using the key, the key fob battery will recharge as you drive along.

The instructor at LRE Dunkeld showed me this yesterday.................. and we had a lot of problems getting the cover back on, so if you are going to experiment with yours be very careful when replacing the lock cover as it is easily damaged and is quite fiddly to replace A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

TDv8 HSE - Stornoway Grey with ebony and straight grain walnut wood-a-like interior with towpack, Tasmods. The best car I have ever owned
Now departed - Giverny Green TDv6SE with Aspen and Parchment interior - nearly the best car I have ever owned
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

Thanks for that wonderful nugget of information. I was similarly wondering why that lock symbol was there. Now I know. Thanks! Wink

Every one in the local dealers had the covers missing !

When I enquired why, it was because 'light fingers' in showroom removed the first couple causing major headaches to get new ones !! So they remove them whenever they have one in or on forecourt.

As an aside, anyone see the Ebay 'Black' doorhandle set available. Might be just the thing for a Black RRS Rob Lane
