Surround cameras

I have approx 2" clearance on the width of my garage to park a new RRS when the mirrors are folded in... I imagine that the surround cameras would help watch the sides if I was to tape the lines on the floor.... Do the side (kerb) cameras work when the mirrors are folded???

Thanks

Good question... Perhaps I wasn't clear.. The opening is the problem with minimum clearance as I have a double garage but it has a central structural column - so no issue once I have the RRS in the garage... Issue is ensuring I do not scratch it on the way in!

Yes, surround cameras still work when the mirrors are folded. You would need painted lines as you describe for them to be useful through I tight gap, though. I'd probably add something soft, thin but spongy to the critical parts of the opening if poss. And don't drink n park. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Oh if it were only so simple! I have fitted two new electric garage fibre glass doors in the last 12 months! Will have to get more confident with the parking... I currently have an XC90 Sport and no issues with parking.. One to get used to...

I have the same issue and guide the vehicle in using the front cameras, making sure that exactly the same amount of garage is showing on both camera views. Having coach doors helps with this as they project outside the garage. If you have up and over doors then a line drawn or taped to the exact centre of the garage floor could also be used to align against - making sure that you see exactly the same amount of the line in both front camera views. I also drop the windows and feel the gap between the folded mirror and the door jamb as I drive in. It's quite nerve wracking the first few times but you soon gain confidence - though would not recomend it if you are overconfidedent due to too too much alcohol!

Having the camera system is worth it for me for this purpose alone.

That's exactly what I did Rolling Eyes Also means I can put 1 car in the centre to make DIY jobs much more accessible and easier.

Really can't understand why double garages are built with a central pillar and 2 doors

It might have something to do with stopping whatever is built above the garage from falling on top of your RRS that is parked inside the garage............ just a guess, I'm not a structural engineer but I do look after 400m long container ships and they bend hugely! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

More likely the price of 2 small RSJs vs 1 large one. I can let you have the structural calculations if you wish Whistle

Stupid isn't it. I was lucky enough to get the builder of my new place to change it to one electric door during build. variation cost was less than putting a personnel door in the side of the garage.

Long things bend! If they don't they break. My plane bends a lot and that is good! It's only 200 foot though!

Thanks all... It appears the solution will be to tape two lines to the floor and use the surround cameras...
