Land Rover Thefts in East Lancs

Reading about a Lancashire Telegraph article on Yahoo News about 14 Land Rover vehicles stolen across East Lancs in the last month. All were stolen by cloning new keys. There was a vary a vehicles stolen. As usual LR said that they we aware of the problem but that current vehicles met all UK requirements for safety. The only suggestion was to buy a steering wheel lock and not to park anywhere except in a garage or a brightly lit street. 2015 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic SDV6

The thefts occurred in or around Mellor, Blackburn, Haslingden, Nelson, Rawtenstall and Whitworth. All were from drives or public car parks. Some of the thefts happened in broad daylight. 2015 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic SDV6

They are so easy to steal, they could be stolen from a Police station car park. Whistle Typical JLR's response as always. Uk sales are going to be hit hard when insurance companies will not insure these vehicles. It's already getting that way in London. Wake up JLR and smell the coffee. Embarassed

Not sure but you may be thinking of the one Blackbox Solutions do, it is connected into the canbus wiring. Sure Colin at BBS has mentioned it on the forum somewhere, I have bought one but have not got around to fitting it yet.

Cheers

I saw that but post was about LR fitting modified module that only allowed 2 keys to be used. If key lost new module required and new keys. If anyone knows more information please share Thumbs Up

Maybe Pete @ LR would like to post a comment Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I did see the BBS post and I commend him for coming up with a solution to LR's security flaw Bow down

But...... I expect LR to fix their problem at their expense not mine. I also don't want to pay to fit a BBS box and then have some Censored at dealer tell me my warranty is invalid Embarassed

This is the post I am interested in Thumbs Up

Yes, the apparently have a new module in the car, that will only ever work with two keys. i.e. it is not possible to clone a key. if you lose a key, then you need a new module and two new keys. This is according to my dealer.

I think these were stolen using the OBD connection. Similar problems with BMW back in 2011/12

The new module will apparently prevent this but I have heard nothing officially and would like more info before I approach a dealer and start the run around Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Excuse my ignorance but with the Viper system are you having to use two separate key/entry fobs to enter and start the RRS?

Mine is 2014 keyless and fob stays in my pocket to enter & start....
