Baby Seat....

Hi Guys,

Absolutely loving my new sport but have come across a bit of a sticky situation....

Me and my partner are expecting a baby, so as you do we ordered the pram and car seat early!!

We ordered the maxicosi isofix base and maxicosi pebble plus car seat (two standard products i believe)

Now me being 6ft 2" in my mind i had that when baby arrives the car seat would go behind my seat comfortably and i can have as much leg room as required as i can leave the iso fix base in the car when baby isnt!!

So heres my problem, with iso fix base fitted and car seat in.....I cant get in my car!! i physically cant..

I do think i've fitted it right but not 100% sure, i do that the 10.2inch tv's which don't help, but surly this isn't right?

Anyone had the same problem?

Thanks

Put the baby seat behind the passenger seat. Thats whete my babies isofix base is as car seats these days are massive. Even behind the passenger seat it almost touches the back of the seat. I'm not Fat. RRS TDV6 HST.

Sounds strange - the RRS is a big car and I have never had that problem mounting car seats in smaller cars like the 3-serie or 5-series but then I haven't used car seats with a fixed isofix base, they might be bigger. Why not check with the seller of your car seat if you have mounted it right. You would be better off mounting it on the passenger side as then you avoid having to be out in the traffic when you take your kid in and out of the car and if you driving you can more easily check up on the kid in the back seat if they are not behind you. The recommendation from the Road Safety Institute in Sweden (home safety obsessed people behind Volvo) is however that the rearward facing car seat is mounted in the front passenger seat with the airbag turned off, as it is the safest position and it is even easier for the driver to check up on the kid. 2015 Range Rover Sport HSE TDV6, Corris Grey

Usally goes behind the passenger seat as far as I am aware done that with both car seats ISOFIX base and the next one up thats a fixed ISOFIX with the seat, only really the mrs whose in the passenger seat.

Did you have a 'fitting' for the seat or just buy it? Certain car seats are a better fit in certain cars.
Your local VOSPA office/council usually do free fitting services and it's well worth paying them a visit.
Even places like Mothercare have specialist fitting people and it's worth speaking with them to make sure you are fitting it correctly Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The Isofix system does have a two stage track as i'm sure you know... so make sure the back of the baby seat is flush against

the back of the car seat.... for safety of the isofix system as well as the extra room it would create..

Having said all that I have two different kinds of Cybex Isofix systems and both need to be behind the passenger seat, more so for more daughters legroom as much as anything else....

They do vary slightly and as Bean says you should go test a few more for size at Mothercare... but personally I would only go

for the safest and best rated model over how it fits...

by the way.... I cannot recommend the Cybex system highly enough......

The protector bar is a giant leap forward in protection.....

just watch this video.... it's compelling and why I will only put my daughter in Cybex

I had the same system in my RRS until my daughter grew out of it and now has the toddler version. I only ever fitted it behind the passenger seat for the safety/practical reasons already mentioned. Also need to consider if you did manage to drive with it behind the driving seat not to damage the seat back with when "comfort access" reclines it when exiting. SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

Bruntyy I'm 6"3 and have the same base and baby carrier /seat and I'm a little squashed in the driver seat now too I have to have the driver seat further forward now than I would without the seat behind me, the rear leg room is a lot less that u think in these cars it's annoying Java black 2006

Thanks for your replies!

Im still having problems tho, i have basically tried all of the maxi cosi range and non of them fit!

Even in the passenger seat, my mrs who is fairly small is very squashed in the front of the car and its just not practical!

I do believe the 10.2 screens cause a problem.

I think i need these removed, does anyone know if this is possible?

Say for the first year.... and then re install them?

This is really frustrating me!!!!

Why not get a not too expensive used "baby car" for a couple of years for the Mrs to drive and keep the poo and nappies out of the nice new RRS?

Had a similar problem in our 2012 x5. The 2014 x5 fits it great though. I'm gonna be going down to our dealer this week now tho as if I can't fit the maxi cosi family fix base in without killing the leg room in the front then I may cancel the order!

Both my kids seats fit in the back of my '14 sport nicely.

Both maxi cosi too - baby boy is still in his ear facing seat, and daughter who is 3 is in the next one up, no oroblems.

Can you take a picture of what the problem seems to be? MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports
