Backlit Controls and Rear Wiper

Backlit Controls
This might be a daft question but…………all of the switches and controls are backlit when the lights are switched on including all of the steering wheel and centre console buttons / switches. But the light and wiper stalks are not. Is this by design or is there a fault with my car? I have looked through the manual but can’t find anything about them.

Rear Wiper
How can this be removed so that I can clean the rear windscreen properly? Surely, you don’t have to remove the rear spoiler?

Thanks

I've never had a car with illuminating controls...

Doesn't bother me, I've learnt how to use them and don't even touch the lighting controls as it just stays on auto... Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Mine stay on auto....so usually little need to bother, but when you want to use front spots/rear fog lights on the odd occasion during the dark, it's entirely difficult to know which way to turn the stalk controls without memorising the manual!
