Finally... SVR Job One

Finally, the day when build of the SVR is meant to start has arrived. This was the date in the original leaked product memo and of course we're hoping it's going to happen on time.

Coincides with the announcement of another 1300 jobs at Solihull to build the Jaguar Crossover, not sure what its natural competitor is, maybe the Audi Q5 or Porsche Macan. By comparison, the start of SVR production is not so newsworthy but I'm looking forward to the magazines getting their hands on one, not to mention my own. Mark

The 'F-PACE' is an interesting proposition. I believe it is possible that it and the Sport could (theoretically) be built on the same line.

Porsche have just announced the new Cayenne turbo S which has something like 20bhp more that the SVR and is a bit quicker but costs a whopping £25k more than the base SVR. Maybe Porsche were a little miffed that the SVR could do the ring faster than their car and have wound up the boost pressure in a fit of pique.

Leaving aside the fact I can't bear the looks of the Cayenne, I'm more than happy to be gewtting the SVR. Makes me wonder whether there's scope for an SVR-S...

What's certain is that the Cayenne will not sound as good - supercharged beats turbo everytime in the aural stakes. Mark

Yes, busy lording their ring time. Thing is, it looks as bad as it will be off-road.

It will be fun to see the full test comparison. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pork, BMW X5M or whatever it is, and the SVR in a group test or two this year. Of course, the Pig will always win such a test, with the BMW a close second.

Did I read somewhere that the F Type four wheel drive will see 600 bhp... only a matter of time! Then I will order one!

Hennessy do an F-Type (ruining) mod that gives the engine 623 bhp, and I presume that could be coerced into an SVR. You first.

The Cayenne isn't that bad off road - like most SUVs it's limited by its tyres. I've met several people that use them as daily transport, at shoots and for occasional trips around the farm. That's about as off road as most SUVs will ever go. How many SVRs will be going off road? Hardly any "cheap"/"normal" RRS go off road so the likelihood of seeing a SVR anywhere muddy is be remote.

I'd direct you to the recent articles on the websites for LRO and Autocar which showed the previous Ring record holder wading round Eastnor. For some reason, the competition seem to struggle round there a bit Smile

I know the RRS in all versions is great off road - I use mine that way when I can and love the look on people's faces when it does its thing Thumbs Up

The reality is that for most of the limited off road use that UK SUVs get asked to do, just about any of them will get around if the tyres are reasonable. The driver will chicken out before the vehicle does.

I've helped push out a D4 from mud that a ML just drove straight through. Better tyres for the conditions and a driver who wasn't a stockbroker seemed to favour the ML... Whistle Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
