2010 Satnav GPS map update

I have been quoted between £150 and £250 by main dealers to update my satnav with the latest maps.

I fully anticipate many sensible comments about buying a TomTom instead (I already have one!) but would be grateful of any smart ideas about how to get this done a little more cost effectively!

Many thanks

I have the same question about map updates, how would I tell if it is DVD or hard drive please?

2009 MY and before are DVD (and presumably the easiest to update)
2010 MY and 2011 MY are HDD with dealer system rig updates only
2012 MY and after are HDD with USB updates

2014-2015 maps are now available.

Trying to get my 2011 MY upgraded has so far proved impossible. The authority code has upper and lower case but the keyboard only does upper case. My garage has escalated to Land Rover and to NavTeq (HERE maps) and they are currently scratching their beards. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Mine's a 2010 HDD system but my dealer doesn't have the hardware to update!

So...shopping around lead to to the above question!

My dealer in Oz updated the maps in my 2010 (to 2012 maps), so it can definitely be done.

Following the failed attempts to update maps on my 2011MY HDD based system, Land Rover have agreed with my dealer to help resolve the issue when it is in for its 4 year service next month. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

I had my 2010 updated a month or so back by my dealer. They charged me £228.40 inc. VAT. That was £140.83 for the update itself and £49.50 labour plus the dreaded VAT. It was updated to 2014 maps.

Dave, was that at Beadles in Sidcup by any chance? Did the dealer mention ANYTHING about issues with map licence key and the lack of lower case letters, or was the upgrade just routine for them? It seems crazy that one dealer needs Land Rover Technical Support whilst for another it's straightforward. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

How can you tell what version you have in the car? I would be interested to hear if you had a later version than my 2013 Black Edition. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Hi, no, it was Guy Salmon, Maidstone and it was absolutely routine for them. They did admit it's not something they're asked to do often but they knew exactly what to do and how to do it. I've had no issues at all with the update.

In a 2010/2011 MY (Not sure if it's the same in a 2013)...

From the navigation screen...

Go to Navigation Setup and then press Map Change.

The screen will tell you what current version you have like WEU:20090501 (Western Europe May 2009). That was the version I had before the update and now I have WEU:20140501.

It was just the map. It certainly doesn't look any different and I haven't noticed any changes in functionality.
