Maybe you could try PMing turbochip, a site sponsor to find out about this. I know you can buy a reader and decoder, but dont know anything about reflashing and i have a feeling its not done via obd2, but i may be wrong.

I know that the ECU can be flashed and reflashed via the OBD II port. It is certainly possible on both Volvo and Saabs and since ODB II is essentially an industry standard... this must be possible. There a company in Sweden called BSR that make an ECU flashing unit that allows you to "tune" your ECU and then "un-tune" it whenever you want. They also stay on top of Volvo and Saab ECU programming changes so that if the ECU is reflashed to a new firmware version, BSR will make their "tuning" version available for download into your own flashing unit, from their web site. Pretty neat overall although I've read some scary postings on ECU flashing's that resulted in a worrying array of every warning light in the book appearing after a failed flash.

The unit is programmed specifically (VIN number matched) to your Volvo or Saab and cannot be used on any other Volvo, Saab or other marque. But the "restore" function puts it back exactly as the factory last set it.

I have my own cautionary tale on ECU upgrades but let's just say the settlement included my agreeing not to discuss it in any detail on forum such as this. 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony/Cherry, Privacy, Sunroof, PTI, Premium Sound, SatNav, Cold Climate, Tow kit, CarStyle coded grill and vents, Tasmods, Stormers, JE Exhaust, Autobiography badge
