Better than flying?

Today was our annual visit to the Goodwood Revival.

I had a landing slot booked at 11.00 and was looking forward to avoiding the traffic by flying in.

At 10.15 when I needed to make the go/no go decision on the flight the Cloudbase enroute was below the safe minima for the trip, so driving became plan B.

In fact, plan B was most enjoyable as the RRS 2 proved to be comfortable and fun and remarkably there were no traffic issues getting into Goodwood.

The return journey was even better ... The TomTom did a great job of finding Sussex lanes with no traffic and routing to avoid the Gridlocked M25 on the way back to Buckinghamshire.

Now I remember why I made the decision to buy the new RRS, with Dynamic mode engaged and sport gearbox selected it was a joy to drive and despite not getting to fly I definitely had a smile on my face.

Nice Sports Cruiser Pete.

Guess you have the Rotax 912S? A bit of a bone shaker when starting/shutting off don't you think?

Best of both worlds - nice Aircraft and a great car - man after my own heart!.

Spear hi,

Yes 100hp Rotax 912S in the Sportcruiser. Not too bad when starting or shutting down, certainly no worse than the lycombing 180hp in the Robin DR400 I fly.

The great thing about the Rotax is 110mph cruise while using about 19lph. So that's roughly 27mpg while traveling at autobahn speeds. MY2010 TDV8 purchased Jan 2017

What licence do you need in the UK for a Sport Cruiser? Are they considered in the ultralight category?

The licence requirement for the Sportcruiser is either a full PPL or the recently introduced LAPL. MY2010 TDV8 purchased Jan 2017
