There are companies out there who offer a similar service for a heap less than dealer costs.

do a search for "megaflush" on google for a local/national company

new filter and pan

apparently there is a mod now that means the whole pan doesnt have to be changed(apparently filter was integral with it), mod fits new pan and seperate filter

because that very same gearbox was already introduced in BMWs Jaguars etc more than 10 years ago

Why did LandRover not fit the Steel pan!
well the original oil will last 10 years at least. and they don't want amatures to easily fuss around with the gearbox most probably.

only BMW is offering the steel pan on certain models

quoted for what?

a steel pan conversion including new oil?

that sounds like a very reasonable price as it is a PITA to get the bolts out and new bolts in.
also to remove and reinstall the heatshield bracket can be very time consuming so count some 3 to 4 hours of labour + parts so your quoted price is not bad.

Have a look at my gallery, I just uploaded some picture so you can see how tight it is.

I just converted to the steel pan. I did it myself (TDV8 2007). I bought the pan on ebay ( make sure you get one with a sump plug). Removal of the plastic sump was a crap job. You're meant to cut the plastic pipe that goes up into the gearbox so that you don't have to lift the engine/gearbox an inch. But it's almost impossible to get a saw in there and you can't see what you're doing. I finally identified more or less where the pipe was with a ruler, marked it on the bottom of the sump and used a 40mm hole cutter, straight through the bottom of the sump, filter and surrounding plastic of the pipe. The pipe was then disconnected and the sump came out.
Filled it with Redline ATF D6. Great results, the car hasn't felt this crisp in ages. ( I tow a fair bit and the car has 77000 k on it.)
Will do one more oil change now since the torque converter wasn't emptied.
Total cost $440 AUD and 4 hours. TDV8 RRS, NAS D90, D2 TD5.
